So, how was your research ? what books to buy ?

I remember during my time doing O Levels, I have a lot of Reference Book, This Reference book that I have, after each chapter has lots questions & model answers are provided at the end of the book. The questions are structured from easy to difficult. All past years papers pertaining to that chapter then followed.

But now, I find all the Reference books, only have notes. Like that how does the students practice to test their understanding ? Or am I missing something ....

Any seniors here can help ?

      Thanks
Very difficult to decide which books to buy. the O level reference books only contain very short descriptions of every topic; not enough to fully understand. I brought some Science books (Lower Sec) Vol1 and 2 since I have notice my DD studying the topic in Vol2 at the moment.
Someone asks to buy 10 years series. for science and maths. Let me finish CNY preparations and I will proceed to check out the 10 years series.

Usually at the end of Sec 2, the students are to choose what subject combinations they want for Sec 3. The allocation will be based on their Sec 2 results. Those with good results will go to triple science (3 pure sciences), The rest would get double science (2 pure sciences) or combined science. Chemistry is compulsary for many schools, be it pure or combined.

When you buy guide books for pure sciences, the titles are 'Physics', 'Biology' and 'Chemistry'. Those titled 'Science Physics', 'Science Chemistry' and 'Science Biology' are for combined Science.
Do the pure science students still need to study geography and history in Sec 3?

Not compulsary if you are refering to pure Geo or pure History. It depends on the subjects combination the student choose.
However there is a compulsary subject - combined humanity which consists of social studies (compulsary) plus either history, geography or literature. Half the time is for social studies and the other half for the arts subject they choose.

I would like to know, if any IP/Sec schools, no choosing of subjects combi at the end of year 2. Which means in year 3, must take all subjects. All the subjects are the 3 Sciences, History, Geo, English(Lang Arts/Literature), Chinese, E Maths and A Maths.

            TIA πŸ˜„

If I remember correctly, there's no choosing of subjects in NJC. Everyone does the same subj combi all the way to Yr 4.

Hi, I would like to know what are the practices in IP schools for the following issues. TIA

                1) the split of class
                a) stay with same class in year 1 & 2, then split after choosing subjects combi or ...... ???

                2) choose subjects combi in end of year 2 for year 3 ? As turquoise mentioned above, in NJC, there is no choosing of subjects combi, they take all subjects till year 4. How about other IP schools ?

                3) any min scores the schools set for them for O level HCL ?

                4) in JC year 2, do the schools insist students must take at least one H3 ?

                TIA πŸ˜„

I am pretty sure the schools won’t insist on H3 to allow for other subject combinations. I can only speak so for RJ though.

                        1) this depends on the school.

2)Again this varies, depending on the school
                        4) Usually no, also some students are too weak to take H3 subjects.
