from this open discussion, at least we know 1 affected parent is not going to sign the petition and some living near Ghim Moh who are very happy abt the relocation. -

Am I right to assume that most of the unhappy parents are from the boys' school since it's always about bishan? St nicks is in amk and nobody said anything about going from there. Those from scgs have also not said anything.
Sounds like it. Even the Straits times reported two concerned fathers with SONS questioned the minister at the Bishan community event. St nicks probably don't care since the school fees still reasonable. scgs parents although lugi the most as the fees paid are ten times more than other two schools but travel time got some advantage maybe as scgs is nearer ghim moh.

Jokes aside, there's some truth that the boys' dads (mostly old boys) are more outspoken...they were groomed to be \"leaders\", whereas the mommies (mostly old girls) of the affected girls were told to be 温文尔雅、高贵大方、谦恭有礼，进得了厨房，出得了厅堂，so they are less feisty? :evil:
Anyway, for 3 decades, many old girls drove from all parts of Singapore to send their darlings to AMK Ave 2...so not all stay in AMK and Bishan to begin with. The mommies themselves have shifted a couple of times since the 80s if you ask them.
Same with CHS. Last weekend, I had dinner with some old boys who used to live in Bt Timah and elsewhere who also said they bore with the inconvenience brought about by PRIME. The Sec 3 & 4 cohorts even didn't get to enjoy the new campus at St 23, as they were put up at Guangyang Sec School until their O Levels.
SCGS lagi no need to worry...nearer to Mt Sinai and mostly chauffeured (sch bus included) to school as there's no MRT near Whitley. -

Don't trust Google map...Like I said, cut thru the Ghim Moh HDB carpark where the market is/old bus terminal was. Those who took 100, 111 would cut thru this path last time. Sinoboy already highlighted this earlier.
Walking thru Ghim Moh market market, ( no need to go near Ulu Pandan CC) and entering the campus thru the side gate near Ghim Blk 1 ( so no need to go to Mt Sinai road) should be be much faster 10-12 mins max. Unfortunately Google doesnt know these short cuts. And no one seems to be interested in this either. Just saying it anyway.sushi88:
Google map gives 14 mins so it is between 10-20 mins using an average pace of walking I suppose. 10 mins could be a very athletic person and 20 mins could be one with a heavy bag or a very late night of finishing up the homework after all the CCAs.
How come I keep seeing heavy bags? Is it heavier than Pr Sch kids' 4 kg bag? They can rent a locker you know? Besides, it's all lecture notes on foolscap papers and no thick textbooks/workbooks in JC...unless things have changed? -

I do not agree. No doubt standards of living improve over generations. Hence endurance and resilience may be of different measures. However, we should let our children be exposed to some 'hardship' which is not even deemed as hard in the past. Do not over-protect and make them strawberries.
Every generation is a strawberry generation to the earlier ones. Our parents and grandparents lived through The Great Depression, Japanese Occupation, race riots and many more, so who are we to snidely comment that our children are strawberries when we are likewise strawberries in our parents and grandparents' eyes?
Speak for yourself. I ain't no strawberry in the eyes of my parents and grandparents but a resilient apple. -

She walked to Buona vista MRT from the campus for two years.
But I know there is a side gate where RJC, Dunman high, NUS high school, henry park primary, RGPS people all use to walk to the MRT through ghim moh. There is a feeder bus from the campus to the mrt which makes it even more convenient.

The so called text books are super thick and heavy that no one is bringing them. It will take two bags to bring if want to bring. They are plied with lecture notes. The bag are lighter than in pri or sec schools -

I don't care if you call yourself a resilient apple or redoubtable orange, we are not an orchard here.
It is interesting that a thread for a new IPJC has so many distracting posts making snide remarks and comments while trying to avoid the key issues; firstly, there has been a series of mistakes committed by MOE that has resulted in parents being unhappy. Secondly, the lack of clarity and information leave parents in the dark and uncertain as well as worried.
If the affected parents choose to vent their frustration in an open forum using words, everyone can just make an effort to empathise, be sensitive and not make negative comments unnecessarily. -
