Please support Singapore themes or something that sounds grand and noble but secular in nature. Support Merdeka Institution as a show of respect to our founding fathers.

While the meaning of Merdeka is independent and free, it also carries the meaning of freed slaves. It would be too controversial to use it to name the JC once there is such double meaning.

I agree with sushi88 and pirated.

Yes, Merdeka Institution sounds very majestic and noble as we recollect all historic milestones leading to SG50 now. (But the JC naming ceremony ain't going to happen this year right?).

But like pirated pointed out last night, it harks back to our 2 tumultuous years of merger with the Federation of Malaya.

      1. There's a reason why the name \"Merdeka Bridge\" has been quietly downplayed as \"Nicoll Hway\" in road signages and street directories in recent decades. It is synonymous with the independence movement and self-governance from the British, nothing to do with post-1965 SG independence.

      http://i60.tinypic.com/2zjho34.jpg\">

That you keep hearing this \"Merdeka\" chant during the recent national mourning period doesn't mean it 'sits well', politically speaking 😛 I could be wrong though. 🤷

      2. What's important is the final name that will be reflected on the student's School Leaving Cert and resume.

The word \"Merdeka\" might give overseas universities the impression that the student hails from Malaysia or even Indonesia. In Malaysia, they celebrate Merdeka Day (National Day) to commemorate their independence of the Federation of Malaya from the United Kingdom.

And many public places and awards bear the word \"Merdeka\" in Malaysia, incl the stadium and some centres/schools.

How about have something frenchy since 2 out of 3 have French Founders. So can consider something atas like Collège du Parc or L'Institut du Jardin? :rotflmao: Sounds like some spa salon or Michelin-starred restaurant in Bishan!

Trinity Junior College sounds very prestigious, like Trinity College in Cambridge. But I dunno if the new govt JC is gonna be secular and whether there'd be a Chapel in the compound and it'd continue to provide \"time off\" for students to go for cathechism? Unlikely right?

Tripartite Junior College will make it sound like a school grooming kids to form unions to go on strikes!

          Becheras Barre Song Lim JC?

          Edward Nicholas Song Lim JC?

          Maybe Mont Marie JC?

got boys from Catholic High Secondary, in this IP JC.

the rest of the names are ok, except this Marie, Maria, Mary, or whatever, sound so convent like. Unless this new JC comprise only ladies from the 2 schools : St Nicholas and SCGS, only

actually, \"Trinity\" is a very nice name, sounds very grand too.
after all, is 3 Secondary schools coming together, to form one united IP JC. \"Trinity\" means 3, come together.
only thing is afraid that some people may find it sound more like a Theological Bible college, wait people think the pupils study here in this IP JC, is to become pastors, after \"A\" level graduation. Otherwise, \"Trinity\" Institution sounds great.

btw, what are some of the top league universities in UK / England or US ?
maybe just name after one of them, add the word \"Institution\" behind
example (just to brainstorm, pls contribute your valuable ideas too) :
          - Leeds Institution
          - Kent Institution
          - Oxford Institution
          - Cambridge Institution
          - etc

US ones: Havard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford...

Instead of Stanford Institution use Stamford Institution? Also part of Sir Stamford Raffles's name, I'm sure parents will love it. It will put the name on par with the other premier JC. 🆒

I was nearly going to suggest that if all things fail to speed up SJI's completion date, perhaps the parents and students(or reps) can suggest to MOE to go for site visits of all the possible holding sites around the area of Bishan to decide which is the holding site majority will favour and for what duration.

If MOE is serious about getting an interim site within the Bishan-AMK area so as to live up to its earlier commitment, given the govt resources, it should be doable.

Alternatively, why not assist in expediting SJI's renovations to have it completed by end-2016.

good idea,p,since SJI is the bottle neck obstacle holding u affecting all the IP students here[/quote]
You are right! If SJI can return the ITE Bishan site by end-2016, the parents will be in a happier mood attending the dialogue.

I am so so sorry, I don't mean to make fun, but this is really funny :rotflmao: :rotflmao: And both schools being in Bishan.

That said, I really do like the name Trinity. It sounds elegant. The only concern would be the religious connotation.

call it Stanford Institution is fine, but not Stamford Institution, although Sir Stamford Raffles bear the name, \"Stamford\" inside
currently, this Stamford primary school, PSLE standard ... so-so
                  http://www.stamfordpri.moe.edu.sg/

if name this new IP JC \"Stamford\" Institution : then next time, people can say, \"Let's go to Bishan, can see Stamford Raffles together \"

\"Princeton\" Institution sounds princely, aristocratic prestige, elegant, like a prince of his own high class

\"Harvard\" Institution also sounds great, can produce a lot of bright, intellectual graduates 😄
                  wah !
next time, \"Princeton\" Institution or \"Stamford\" Institution, or \"Harvard\" Institution, can fight with \"Raffles\" Institution, men !

Does it have to be extensively refurbished to make it suitable for a JC? Is so, I think there's no way the new JC can occupy the premises, even if SJI can shift out by end-2016, since the first batch of IP students from the 3 schools is due to start JC in 2017.

actually, this name \"Trinity\" is feasible, very nice name

perhaps after a while, people forget about the religious part, just accept it as another educational Institution of higher learning.

I think more forward looking, springy and classy type of school name would suit the younger generation.

The school can have a naming competition after they sort out the more urgent issues after 25/5. Trust the kids to come out with more creative , innovative names than us.
