I was recommended to Kumon for my DS when they were younger during their P1-P3 years. I felt they built quite a good foundation and worked on their mental sums pretty well. although there’s quite abit of repetitive work but it was good practice for when they were younger.

When they got older, i think it isnt quite suitable once they reach P5-P6 kumon doesn’t teach the model methods and heuristics. So i started to look for other centres then.

My cousin’s son attended Kumon Eng and Math since K1/K2. He has many trophies… a few 3 Years ahead and at least 10 of the 5 years ahead. Not sure what it meant as my kids never attend Kumon before. All this while, from P1 to last year P4, my nephew has been 1st in Standard for Math, among top 3 in standard for overall. Anyway, helpful or not, I think it works differently for each child so we should not jump to conclusion that it is not helpful. In my opinion, there is no harm trying if the child is still in Kindergarten.

Does anyone have experience with ‘Study Room’ or ‘Neuromath’ for their Math classes?

My daughter is currently with another tuition centre which used to be highly rated a few years ago. However, with the speed it is expanding today, the quality of teaching has since dropped. Teaching materials and worksheets are ok but teachers so-so. I am looking for other options for my girl, preferably small class size of not more than 8 and there is some personal attention if needed. In her current tuition centre, due to back-to-back classes, there is no way we can clarify any doubt with the teacher even just a few minutes after class ended.

Kumon is more of drilling but ultimately school syllabus is not about what is 2x4 , 4 x 3 or rather is more of foundation and concepts build up right from lower primary.

instead of going enrichment, the textbooks nowadays are quite practical and hands on if you are looking at my pals are here. try getting the different manipulative (if you need more buildup on a certain topic) and guide your child. Sometimes learning and moltivation from parents does help a child instead of relying on enrichment alone,

If you are looking at MOE syllabus related enrichment, can try The Learning Lab, Concept Math, Eyelevel besides those already mentioned by others.

Hi, i didn’t get to see the questions but I understand there were addition/subtraction questions. Don’t fret. There is nothing to prepare. It’s just to have a sense of the kid’s proficiency level so that TLL can recommend which are the more suitable classes of comparable level for your child.
