Since my dd was in P2, her compositions have been marked by 2 teachers during SA1 and SA2 exam. Even in PSLE or O levels, there will be at least 2 markers to mark the composition too.

For the Chinese posting that phtthp asked, I came across this link and hope find it very helpful.

Anyone knows of any website / app that can help with English pronounciation, for example:

1. An app that can read out the passage we key in, in British English?
2. Website that shows commonly mispronounced words, or how to pronounce mother ( must take note of th sound), next ( must not pronounce as Nex).

Need for English Oral purpose. Thanks.

from P3 onwards, for SA1/SA2, in most primary schools -

- for English composition and Chinese composition (作文) :
normally, 2 markers will mark the students' answer scripts.

One will mark first, while the second marker will counter-check or moderate, to check if the first marker had \"unusually\" marked too high or too low or in common agreement, as marking Composition tend to be subjective.

- to prevent biasness, both exam markers cannot be the same subject Tr that teach the class's students before. They have to be Teachers, that never teach the class, so do not know the students.

This is to prevent favoritism, in case some Teachers tend to award high marks to his or her own special \"pets\" in class, since on the answer script, both the student's name and the index registration number, are written on the script, for the marker(s) to see. During exam, the 40 tables in the P3 classroom, are also arranged by index number, where students sit according to their index number.
(P3 : around 40 pupils, per class)

This apply to other core examinable components, as well : including Listening Comprehension, Oral, Main (Paper 1 and Paper 2). Not just compo only.
The marker who mark : must come from another class Teacher, who had never taught the students, before.

anyone been attending TAS (The Alternative Story), or MindStretcher or Learning Point, or The Learning Lab (TLL) high end tuition in English compo, & managed to score at least minimum 18/20 or scored full marks (20/20), in recent 2016 P3 SA1 English compo ?

or after attending these high end centre : scored around 12/20 or 13/20, that type of range ?

are these tuition centre anywhere close to effective, in helping P3 students score very high, in English compo ? or din really help ?
can share your experience ? Thank you

His compo marks in P3 SA1 is 12/20 for the new format Eng compo, he made a couple of grammatical errors.
He does not seem to be able to apply the techniques taught.
Noticed TAS doesn't do compo for every regular 2hr lesson.
Contemplating to withdraw him from TAS.

If your child is weak in compo, switch him to pure creative writing class. I knew of a parent kept switching her child between regular class and cw class. Apparently they allowed. TAS regular class only produced 3-4 compo per term. Definitely not enough for weekly practise. My DS was with TAS for nearly 2 years. His compo score hovering ard 15-18/20, always top in TAS class but average in class lol. I have since stopped his writing class.

Thinking of putting him back in Learning Point. He was there from RFS to P1.
But I heard need to take test to go in .

You can read the above links. I found them by chance when I was doing a Google search on Chinese oral and composition resources online. I bought the Ocean P3/4composition guide book for my dd. The high volume of Chinese words which are very small and it puts her off reading that book entirely. I could only select those topics that are more common in exam, read word by word or phrase by phrase together with her and explain to her in English what the Chinese words mean. Eg: 火冒三丈
My dd will think that the phrase has something to do with 3 fires! I had to explain that it means very angry （生气）. That is why you see the 火。
By looking at that thick book, we do not have the luxury of time to complete all the pages. We did just a few compositions.
Building up the language takes time and we have to start from somewhere. I'm sure Popular has many more of such Chinese model Composition books which parents can buy. Reading model compositions help to a certain extent.

Reading is very important even if the child attends English or Chinese tuition/enrichment.
The fastest way to improve is to read.

Sigh. Back to age old question. How to get the kids interested in reading? DD is fine with reading English books (not that her compo result was that great), but shows minimal interest in reading chinese books. Mainly Chinese comics if nagged enough. Doesn’t help that we are a ‘eat potato’ family. Think her command of Chinese vocab has now surpassed mine too. Anyone has any suggestion? Still trying my best to avoid tuition this year.
