sorry this is quite funny. Makes me wonder if the teacher or tutor who drafted this exercise was venting his/her frustration as a parent or a student who had been there done that...

I think as a parent, we all just want to do our best for our kids. If no $$ to shift from jurong east to bukit timah, at least try to shift somewhere nearer where it is easier to commute for your child. That said, I am aware there are a lot of popular schools in bukit timah, but sending your child to a popular does not equate success in the future.

as adults, daily commuting takes a toll on us, let alone a child. What if this affects their studies? sending them to a popular school will backfire then, if they are unable to keep up with their peers.

Lol! Wrong lah. If she needs 1hr to travel to school, she will be late for school if she wakes up at 6am! My kids wake up at 6am even though their schools are pretty nearby in the same town. Or maybe my kids are just so slow in getting ready for school. lol.

I feel the underlying basis for not balloting the popular schools <1km and 'play it safe' with the >1km schools is not so complete.

The OP should dig further and analyze what does the popular schools <1km offer? most importantly, to his/her child? What is the value proposition? Religious setting - Catholic, Methodist, Presbytarian, Buddhist? Known dedicated teaching team? SAP school? Specialised CCA - swimming, rugby? etc.

Personally, I would try find out more about the teaching team of the school. Any dedicated Head of Depts? Popular teachers? OR, does the school have a problem replacing teachers when they go on MC, Maternity leave?
How does the school prep the students for P6?

If strong value proposition, then Ballot!! Phase 2C is your right as resident <1km of the school. The school is in your neighborhood, it should serve YOU.

Heads of departments are super busy no matter how dedicated they are...they have many meetings to attend.
I prefer teachers who are passionate about teaching and willing to go the extra mile to see the students understand. The worry is when the form teacher is frequently on MC and the relief teacher doesn't teach.

BUT I do agree with you on how the school prepares the students for P6.

i am a lazy parent who believe every school is a good school .. :rotflmao:

wrong .. i believe every school will have a good teacher so if my child is good .. he will excel even if he attend normal school and not popular school .. if he is normal regular kid .. then jsut let him enjoy his childhood

... my parent when putting me and siblings in primary one school.. also never do all these research .. and we all turned out just fine .. my sister went from a normal neighbourhood school to be a PSC scholar ..

of course having said that . there are other reasons why i am giving the > 1km school a miss

for some reason i feel... today teachers have lost the passion to teach and to groom a child .. it is all academic driven .. unlike teacher of yesteryears ... haiz ...

i was watching channelnewasai the other day .. they were doing a short clip on the P6 student.. i really pity the kid .. her lesson is so packed .. and i wonder is that healthy .. and does she even know how to enjoy and do things she like ..

it’s hard to find teachers from yesteryears…if there are more of these around, probably tuition won’t be a booming industry. it’s a lot to do with the syllabus getting so tough.

I'm currently working in MOE HQ and am aware which level the syllabus is being planned. Was joking with another colleague about bursting in on that department and scolding the lot of them for coming up with such tough syllabus for our kids.

But end of the day, the teachers planning the syllabus also had a job to do. And it is not just one teacher doing it, or will it always be the same teacher doing it.
