Any Updates As To When PSLE T-Scores Will Be Scrapped?

According to last nite ch8 news, school curriculum and difficulty level of psle remains the same. Most likely the students who want to do well will still feel the stress :slapshead:
if the syllabus doesn't change, the stress of PSLE will increase and with the move to ABC grading, it will be tougher.
my daughter will be the last batch of students taking the old science syllabus this year...the grading is 60 marks for MCQ and 40 marks for open ended section. for kids taking next year's psle, it will be 50/50...ie 50 marks for MCQ section and 50 for open ended. -
Yes syllabus is getting tough..same goes for tertiary level too.

For EL and MT, the total is 200 in the current system. How will the final score be calculated in the new system? Anyway not easy to score high marks for language papers IMO.

The anxiety, confusion and I daresay, even fear is palpable.
Even though I don't have any more primary school DC after this year, I feel very upset by all this...what more those whose kids take PSLE in 2021 or later. I think it's the uncertainty more than anything else :sad:
Among the many questions, I have one too. Will they moderate the marks for each subject based on difficulty? So for example,for a super difficult paper the actual marks may be 60 but moderated marks 80? Something like that?
4A1 is similar to 4Astar. How many 4Astars are there in each cohort? I believe that it won't be that many. So competition for top schools in the 4 points category may be less intense than 5 or 6 points which I think will be the most intense when it comes to the top schools. This is where the non-citizens will really bear the full brunt...sad but true.
DSA is of course going to become increasingly more coveted. This is extremely worrying indeed.
The more privileged will definitely use their resources to upskill their DCs (similar to GEP) to make them ready for DSA...whichever domain it might be.Some domains like Leadership are dependent on what your primary school teachers think of your DC and this is really very subjective. Many potentially good leaders are passed over (thankfully some of them are discovered in sec schools). Similarly sec schools sometimes ask for recommendations from schools for certain DSA domains. The recommendations come from teachers too, introducing another element of subjectivity in the whole 'game'.
At the end of the day, I think the only way for all of us to survive this is to just accept and move on. We should simply focus on our DCs and helping them develop into the best they can be...not the best they can be compared to the rest. Let's not hold on too tightly to the result. Focus on the process. And for those without the DSA advantage , make 6 very carefully considered and wise choices for your DC. I don't know what to say to anyone whose DC doesn't get any of their 6 choices except to advise your DC to make the best of what they get and never ever give up. There are many inspiring stories...in my family , we have someone who went from normal stream to express stream and then onto JC and eventually got a second upper honours degree from NUS (and a solid job after that). Nothing is impossible.

I am contented with my dc getting an A and aimed for 75-85 marks previously. With the new system, I will have to push him to get at least 85 marks for a more decent grade of 1 or 2.
Morever, it sounds like O level L1R5 score to JC since to qualify for express stream the range is 4-20 pts.
I don't see the new system is of any help to release the stress of kids and parents. Can someone enlighten me please?
A1 in O levels = 75~100%, a much wider band so there's a bit of room for errors, for not-so-'tok kong' compo or not-so-perfect oral for the potato kids...But for new PSLE, both your 2 languages must be darn good to score above 90% to earn that perfect 1 point.
No bell curve, no nat'l moderation anymore, cos now you are awarded the AL grade based on your cold hard raw scores.

Haha, don't mind me but to me, hoping to get an A to get 75-85 is like 自己骗自己. 75 raw score gives you a very different T-score compared to getting 85 as a raw score. But seeing 'A' gives you the comfort of 'for all you know, he's at the 85-mark range'. On one hand, I think it's stressful bcos now there are specific, narrow ranges of marks to aim for, after we are used to the up-in-the-air and non-transparent grades for the T-score system; on the other, if you see it positively, your child can now truly works on his weak areas to better his own scores rather than worrying if the unknown cohort's average is going to be lower, much lower, higher or much higher than his own scores. -

Scoring Band 1 now, per subject : can mean that your child get AL2, not AL1
current system (T-score) :
many parents are happy, if the kids able to scrape through Band 1 (85 and above)
But, with the new Psle Banding system (from 2021) : increase the anxiety of parents, because score 85, is not good enough anymore

(This scenario)
Say, if a student from (P3 to P6 PSLE) primary :
consistently score Band 1 (85 to 89 range) for 4 subjects (English, Maths, Science, Mother tongue), it means that his / her PSLE score is
AL2 X 4 subjects => PSLE score is, 8 points.
With 8 points (Band 1 score, from 85 to 89 range) -
unlikely to enter Top Tier IP schools like RI / RGS / HCI / NYGH, as usually these 4 Secondary schools likely to take in only 4 pointers.
Example #2
If score Band 2 (80 to 84 range), for 4 subjects -
End up PSLE score become, AL3 X 4 => 12 points -
Based on the new banding system what will be the T-score equivalent for 4-pointers?
