Any Updates As To When PSLE T-Scores Will Be Scrapped?

Maybe we should think of ways on how to achieve the final objectives of becoming professionals like doctors or super stars at the low possible costs without going through all these layers of old and new systems.


The children and the parents get to choose what they like best.

I feel a 10% probability of not getting into dream school despite working very hard is unfair. It will never happen under the old system. So, every year there will be 4,000 disappointed children. How are we going to tell our child to work hard in the future if they are balloted out? One day they will become 10% of the work force. Would the S1 bitter experience still haunt them? So, no need to work too hard as they don't have as good luck as others? Or, is it parents' responsibilities to make sure they bounce back? There are some children that just don't bounce back or will be scarred by it.

I think if the end all and be all of education for a primary school child is to get into a particular 'dream' secondary school, then the child has a more serious problem than having to ballot. :siam:

If I have 4-5 points AL, naturally I will pick all the best/popular schools..
These schools may have been fully subscribed.
I predict this kind of scenario may happen.

Probably the same place as somebody with a T-score of 230 who put 1st choice NYGH, 2nd choice RGS, 3rd choice MGS, 4th choice Dunman High IP, 5th choice St Nicks IP and 6th choice SCGS. :evil:

How to get T-score, 230 ?

On average, per subject : Raw score need to score at least lowest 80 (ie. AL 3)


Then, how to get T-score 261, to enter RGS Secondary ?
On average, per subject : Raw score need to score at least lowest 91, to get into RGS.
(Ie. AL 1)

NYGH, RGS, Dunman High, St Nick IP and even 6th choice SCGS O level require at least minimum 250.

If put above 6 choices down inside the list : with 230, you can't even get into the last 6th choice.
You don't even get close to your #6 last choice.
Computer will just simply allocate your child a Secondary school, based on his or her AL score, see which Secondary school can possibly fit into.

The school the child get posted to, will be outside his 6 choices.
Child will get a shock, got posted by computer to an unwanted school, can cry

Because there exist people, despite what their academic results say, isn't too bright in making life choices.

that's not fair. Maybe they just couldn't stand up to their not very bright parents.

Maybe MOE should accord more schools SAP status? Nanchiau High is one example. After gaining SAP status, it attracted more students with higher Tscore (eg. 25X to 26X) than before.

I'm not really convince on the their objective in this exercise. Does it mean a kid can dream of becoming a doctor now with AL16? Focus on their passion... and follow their dreams :imanangel:


Assuming averaging 75-79 for every subject, which is not bad. If i didn't remember wrongly, passing a subject in Imperial College need >30, 1st class >70

Now we are a nation obsessed with balloting. Pri 1 entry, HDB flat application, now Sec Sch posting as well :siao:

T-score 230, is equivalent to : 80 marks, per subject
how to compute T-score 230, under current system (before 2021) ?

take 80 marks x (4 subjects) = 320
Then, take 320 x (either 0.72 or 0.75, as a rough estimate ) ==>
you'll get around T-score, 230

However, under the \"AL\" new Banding system -
Total (80, per subject) will end up a student, with :
AL3 x 4 ==> 12 points

Hence, T-score 230 : is roughly 12 points, under new AL system.



next question :
Then, 4 or 5 points AL equate to what kind of T-score ?

AL1 : 90 and above


suppose a child score 90 x 4 = 360 (Total Raw score)

take 360 x (either 0.72 or 0.75) ==> T-score is roughly ... 259

hence, a \"4 point AL\" is roughly equivalent to ... T-score 259


with \"4 point AL\" -
can enter Secondary schools, like Dunman High IP, National Junior College IP, Victoria JC IP, Catholic High IP, CHIJ St Nicholas IP, SCGS IP, River Valley High IP, provided no need to involve balloting OR managed to get balloted in, in one of your 6 choices school

with \"4 point AL\" -
can apply to any school, but may encounter balloting, in the hottest in- demand Secondary school

1 in 10 of the students will be affected by balloting which means 3700 students with a cohort size of 37000......that is alot :yikes: ....and I guess most will happens at those top schools...you need not only hard work, luck but may be some supernatural help.
