OK, first, I do not wish to start a debate about which source of calcium is better absorbed by the human body, but just want to share an article with all here.

      http://www.ellenskitchen.com/faqs/calcium.html

There was also an interesting point here, that \"You must have vitamin D from supplements or sunshine to absorb dietary calcium\". I recalled learning this in a pre-natal class.

My DS quite happy with Magnolia Chocolate Milk for now.

He was drinking plain milk with Pedisure added till around 5 year old. The weight increase didn't happen drastically for my DS leh.
Hi Auntie M, my premie DD has been on Pediasure since year 1 and she is 5 this year. Just like u mentioned, her weight gain is very minimal...I ever asked her paediatrician previously when she was like 3 years old on Pediasure milk and dr. did comment that the weight gain must also depends on how much the child drinks....So your boy is completely on fresh milk? Does fresh milk has all the nutritions needed for a growing child??

So now I give him goats milk tablets, and add ikan billis, tofu and cheese to our meals. Hopefully he will get enough calcium from there.
Broccoli and Chinese cabbage have very high calcium too. I think there are many more... must go dig up my notes.

We actually have a soy milk machine at home but rarely use it, unless we want to make special versions with black beans, peanuts or other ingredients.
What kind of soy milk machine is that? How different is it from boiling soy beans after grinding the beans to powder form?

              Hi HappyAvon,

So far full cream fresh milk does the trick for my DS, he loves cheese too.
I guess Pedisure and weight gain issue varies with different kids.
My DS drank quite a fair bit daily. My friend's DS put on loads of weight quite quickily though.. .. 😉

My parents bought it in China. They like it a lot and bought one for us too. It's actually similar to doing all the boiling and filtering manually, except that the machine will do all that automatically. We just need to soak the beans and put into the machine.

Sounds good! How much does it cost? Any idea if it is available locally?

I think around RMB600-700. Not sure if they're available here. Maybe some other brand :?

My parents used to make the soy milk the traditional way (boiling etc). But since they have the machine, they use that a lot. Especially my mom has osteoporosis and needs to drink more soy milk.

My dd has also been on fresh milk since 9 months old. Some formula milk and partial breastfeeding from birth till 2.5 months old, then totally breastfed till 9 months.

I give her Meiji whole fat milk which she likes so far. Think she’s not very fussy, when we travel, I give her the fresh full cream milk i can find and she drinks it too.

I believe that formula milk is a big farce by manufacturers out there to make money from parents’ insecurities. plus everytime they ‘re-package’ they charge higher.

in ang moh countries they all drink fresh milk after 6 months. before that, formula milk is only if you don’t breastfeed. cos FM tries to mimic breastmilk. even my doctor friends feed their children fresh milk instead of formula, so i think overall there just needs to be more awareness.

good thread! lots of ppl here already give their kids fresh milk if they are not lactose intolerant. heartening.
