XYZ1:
For us we just picked the most convenient so that he can get tangible benefits like time to rest and less competitive mindsets from the kiasuparents kids. Thanks Chief, SpartanMum and Careermum for your insights and sharing....
I thot I was the only having this problem until I saw posts from nicnac and attempt impossible....
I will definitely discuss the pros and cons with DS, but what I'm afraid is that current moment is \"passionate\" period, so he
will of course, say YES to all cons that we will point out to him. After honeymoon wears off, I'm afraid
he will forget all the conversations that we've had.....
On one hand I do not want to be a wet blanket to him, on the other hand, I really have concerns abt the travelling....
dilemma....
Do you think the school makes a difference to your child's intelligence at all? or are we choosing to believe in that to convince ourselves we did something ? Our opinion is that a person's ability is restricted by his genetic make up and that is it. -

I need an urgent advice. If my DD put her affiliated school as her 2nd choice, will she be given lower priority to those who put the affiliated school as the first choice?
If she puts it as 2nd choice, she will no longer have the affiliation advantage so she will have to meet the COP of those from non-affiliated schools. -
Hi, I have not been able to access the S1 posting website last night and today. I get the temporarily unavailable message. I am overseas now. May I know if it is working for local users?

I am actually rather surprised that a lot of people select the schools based on last year’s lowest T-score of the school, not the median score. As the distance and convenience were important factors to us, DD and I spent time going for different open houses prior to PSLE and actually timed the commute between home to the school, including the wait/walk time. We also considered schools that were up to 20+ points lower than DD’s estimated T-score, just as a safety net. We are happy that DD has a high chance of getting into her first choice school as her T-score was right smack into the school’s median score recorded last year.
I would personally worry if DD insisted on selecting the "utmost reputable" school where she barely meets the COP, as it may affect her self-esteem knowing she starts off at the bottom of the pack. That particular T-score may be listed as the school’s lowest score of 2017 intake, and she has to bear with the initial phase of schoolmates sharing each others’ T-scores. As my DD will start the journey of her school life for the next 6 years, these social aspects were important for our decision. -

Students who wish to go back to their respective affiliated Secondary school for \"O\" level, must place the school as 1st choice.I need an urgent advice.
If my DD put her affiliated school as her 2nd choice, will she be given lower priority to those who put the affiliated school as the first choice?
Otherwise (e.g. : put down as 2nd choice), they will be treated as non-affiliated, lose their affiliation privilege : have to meet the official non-affiliated COP of their school, which can be far off from their affiliated COP. -

Absolutely. I share your thoughts on this issue too. To me, it is better to go for a school not based on the child meeting it's COP as it may affect her confidence and attitude.
However, I can empathise with those going for the COP too. They feel that Secondary school is a reset for the child, and PSLE only provides the entry point. Once in the school, by interacting with high performing peers, the child may up her game. Also, the higher the COP, the more uniform is the quality of the students. Many of the new students are likely to be near the COP.
Essentially, if your child is competitive, go for the COP. If you feel that you want more opportunity for your child to shine amongst her peers (academic or cca wise), go for the median. That's why I keep saying that we should leave it to the child to make the final decision, once we have outlined the pros and cons of various schools to her. She must understand the kind of competition she is likely to face in the next 4 years of her life. -

How do we find out school's Mean Score? -
XYZ1:
What if it is the kid who wants to choose the farther school?SpartanMum:
Distance does make a huge difference. It is so very tempting to send to the best school the score can get you and I see so many doing this but if there is a good school near by that DC can get into it's a significant advantage.
DS is impressed by a sch 50mins away from our hse by MRT (DTL then CC line)....I'm a not sure, but he seems so passionate, should I dissuade him? We visited the school and it was like \"love-at-first-sight\" for DS, I like the sch myself, but it is the distance that I'm not sure....but now DS seems determined to put that sch as first choice.
We visited other schools near our house, but this farther school is still his # 1 fav.....the other nearer schs all need at least 30mins of bus commute as well....so no sch within walking distance.
Anyone with experience to share?
My boy needs to travel to Maris and the journey takes about 40 mins in total. Initially thot that was a big concern, but with the mrt station located directly outside the school, it is so much easier, without the need to change to bus.
Importantly, son gets his choice of school and he is very happy there. With the strong culture, emphasis on character development programme plus dedicated staff, no regrets on the decision made back then. -
Anyone has tried online submission? Will it be jammed on the last 2 days of submission deadline?

Is it safe to put RI as 1st choice for t-score 266? Thanks
Absolutely not safe.
Police will come and catch you, monsters will appear to bite you and you might accidentally trigger apocalypse.
Seriously, you have 6 choices. As long as you spend some thought and apply sense in at least half of them (i.e. reasonably safe choices for 3rd to 6th), it doesn't matter if your first choice is a moon shot (miracles do happen, albeit rarely).
