2017 P1 Registration Exercise for 2018 In-Take

cherrygal:
Thanks. It's good to get this clarified now. I was reading some old posts and came across a couple studying the odds of balloting before the dad/mom withdraws their application and apply at another school. I am not sure if this is done before balloting or not.BigMomma:
Got it. So after balloting is over, we can write in to withdraw and immediately go to another school to apply so that we can have time to apply under Phase 2C. Is this correct? Waiting for Phase 2CS would be far too late.
Think you misunderstood phtthp. Her recommendations for appeal only comes AFTER Phase 2CS. You cannot appeal before Phase 2CS is over.
You cannot withdraw from School A on balloting day itself. If you choose to go for Phase 2C balloting, and lose, then you have no choice but to wait for Phase 2CS registration period IF School B still has any vacancies at the last phase.
If School B traditionally does not have seats left at 2CS, then you need to weigh properly which school to apply during Phase 2C itself.
You can't have the best of both worlds... that's why this is so stressful. It's a huge gamble if you choose balloting at School A coz you might not get School A and School B. You would need backup School C (with lots of vacancies at Phase 2CS).
Hope this is clear now. In a nutshell, your plan is not allowed. Sorry to be wet blanket. -
Please also read my amended text above. Youβre too fast in your replyβ¦ hehehe
As for the old posts, you misunderstood the meaning. Those couples are talking about withdrawing just before 4.30pm on the last day of the Registration. Not balloting day. -

Many thanks. Got it now. I presume that by 2-3 pm on registration day, we should have an idea on our chances for phase 2C. I think this year easily 10-20 more white hairsPlease also read my amended text above. You're too fast in your reply... hehehe

More like 3.30-4.30 pm. For popular schools, you will likely see lots of activities between 4 pm and 4.30 pm. -
qms:
Basically if you don't want the hassle of withdrawing, don't register first. You can just wait until it's about that time slot before you decide which school to register to. But you have to take account on the traffic and the distance between the 2 schools you are monitoring.BigMomma:

BigMomma:
Thanks phtthp. That answers half of my question. The other half is whether I am able to withdraw (due to unsuccessful outcome) my application and apply to another school instead? All to be done on the same day.
The anwser to this question is no. Balloting is done after the closing of a particular phase and before the start of the next phase. The MOE Primary one registration system will be closed in between phases, therefore it is not possible to do what you are suggesting to do. -
I am a super late mom. Am registering P1 for my #1 girl this year. Need advise from the experts here.
We are both SG citizens and staying amk <1km from CHIJ St Nick and <2km from Anderson and Aitong, all P2C for the 3 choices. I have #2 son which we still can try the SHHK route for Aitong (N1 in 2017 so P1 in 2021)
If my girl gets in St Nicks, I have to do P1 registration stress all over again for my boy. So Anderson seems the best choice for both my kids (as Aitong for girl seems too slim now for P2C <2km)
For Anderson, what are the chances to get in P2C <2km? Or should I try St Nicks for my girl and Aitong P2B for my boy via SHHK?
Also if want to try Catholic High for my boy, what can I do to get in P2B beside PV?
Any enlightenment is greatly appreciated! Thanks! -

You have a tricky situation. Apart from SNGS, none of the options that you have mentioned (i.e. Anderson and Ai Tong) are realistic choices. While Anderson would have been safe for under 2km last year (due to the lower birth rate), it's most likely to go back to the status quo (i.e. ballot within 1 km) this year. You can monitor the take up for Anderson and go for it if there's no balloting (but don't keep your hopes up too high). Ai Tong always ballot within 1km and I doubt that will change this year. SNGS will always be an available option because within 1km, you are guarantee a chance at the ballot. Given that most primary schools in Ang Mo Kio (except for Anderson, SNGS and Teck Ghee) have vacancies for P2Cs, my opinion is you should go for SNGS and pick another primary school (nearest) as back up.

As for your son, unless you are a member of SHHK already, you may be a little too late to try the SHHK route for Ai Tong. You will need at least 3-4 years of active membership in SHHK to stand a chance at getting that elusive recommendation. Given that his registration is 2020, time is not in your favour if you have not action on it. In addition, there will be balloting for Ai Tong in P2B and depending on the number of registration, you may or may not get a chance.
As for Catholic High, unless you are prepared to shift to within 1km, you definitely won't have a chance in P2B.
