I want my daughter to transfer secondary school at Sec 2, it is alright? Will it be troublesome? :?:

\"Troublesome\" is not the word, more like \"slim chance\". Schools will only evaluate transfer case when they have vacancies (which is usually very few) during the year. And if there are many transfer applications (which in this cases may be the carry-though from appeal cases after PSLE posting), then again they will have a queue.

Some higher end schools (eg. NYGH, SJI, Victoria) etc offer an Entrance Exam for entrance into Sec 2. Other schools just require you to send an application, but then again, the chance is very low.

Unless you child's results are very good, you can try to transfer her to a IP school, using her Sec 2 results. Those who did badly in IP will be transfer to express at the end of Sec 2. If the school does not offer express stream, then the child will be transfer out to another school.

Depends on your motivation to transfer really. If it’s really important to you and your daughter, I’m sure you won’t find it troublesome.

If your child has very good results in Sec 1 or CCA achievements, I don’t think it will be much of an issue with the school. It depends on what school you’re talking about as well. Of course, the more renowned the school, the slimmer the chance.

Hi, I have the same question here. Say if we know the school we want to transfer to has a space (due to people wanting transfer out) and the student’s result is very good. (psle and sec1) what are the chances? only trouble now is 1. new school only has the current cca which the student is passionate abt in year5,6. 2.school is kind of far 3.new school requires students to be physically fit but the student is not. (although it can be trained, but its tough) .apart from that most other factors abt xferring has been considered. if anyone can give advice its much appreciated.

Can anyone provide more information on the entrance exams needed for transfer to Victoria School?

I called up the school. The lady told me that I can request for a transfer now but there is no entrance exams. It will depend on whether there is any vacancy at the end of the year.

Hi my Daughter is in KCPSS and she doesn’t really like it cause she was from a convent school and changing form Neighbourhood to convent school is a BIG change so… I want to transfer her out and now she is in sec 1 n/a

~my question is if I were to transfer her out (which is most prob gonna b done @ the end of year) when I transfer her to EG. IPTP(if there’s space) and she gets an avg of 70% when she goes to IJTP will she b in express as she got the mark to move up or… must so go to IJTP n/a and from there work up

~2nd point~my husband thinks that we should move here to And IP school(Cedar…) however I don’t think we should cause she was from n/a from n/a to xpress is already a BIG change from there to an IP school would I assume b very diff so would just ❤ to hear your options of this subj thanks

Cedar Girls Secondary only Take in O level or IP students. There is no Normal stream in Cedar Sec. As such, N(A) students cannot transfer to Cedar.

At CHIJ Toa Payoh Girls Secondary, this year (2017) the school opened one Normal stream class, the rest are Express O
                    Level classes.

It Is not a must thing, that IJ (Toa Payoh) every year, every batch, must have an N(A) class. It depends on whether got demand for N(A) or not, from PSLE students entering.

You can contact IJ (Toa Payoh), ask them for the Transfer criteria that’s been set, to transfer from N(A) in Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Sec, to N(A) or to O level Express in IJ (Toa Payoh), is allowed.
The Transfer Admisssion Officer-in-charge, would be able to advise u from there, & whether your child need to take some tests (if any), if a vacancy do arise.

At end of Sec 2, want to Transfer : why ?

Why the compelling need, to Transfer ?

Is it because new school have the Sec 3 subject combination that you want, so that from there your child can proceed onward to A level subject combination easier, whereas current school in Sec 3 doesn't offer the subject combination that u want?

Just note that if Transfer is successful : your child will need to re-adjust to new school environment, new school mates, new Tr, new classmates, find new friends, all over again.

This may not be easy, sometimes, because transferring her out of a familiar school environment which she had already settled down in, grown so much accustomed to, for past 2 years (Sec 1 & 2) : is like Up-rooting her, can be painful esp if she had found best friends, in her current school. Friendship is important to students, at her age.

Is your child going to be transferred from her current school (top class in Sec 2), to a mixed ability class in Sec 3 (new school), since being a new student she can't choose which class to goto, unless encounter just-in-time End of Year Sec 2 streaming, into Sec 3 classes, according to Subject combination.

How are the students behavior like, in the new school ?
Did u pay attention to the behavior of the students, in the new school, in general how is it like ?

Is child transferring from co-ed to single-sex Secondary school, or vice Versa?
                      Sometimes, hard to adapt

Hi mummy hahahahaha, as phtthp mentioned, need to check with IJTP for vacancies.

                        To be honest, it is difficult for a change of school to take place. MOE grants change of school due to the following reasons;
                        - Change in residential address
                        - Medical (eg: physically handicapped friendly, hearing/visually impaired)
                        - Severe reasons (eg: police case, expelled)

Very very very rarely do they allow change of school due to personal reasons such as cannot get used to environment.

Honestly the best thing now is to try to get her to adapt to the environment. Now is still early stages, only 2 months into school. At their age, friends are important support. More so than parents. Get her to participate in more school activities to get to know more friends, this may help her adjust better.

Also for NA to express, read up on the school's policy first. Some schools require at least 75% before moving to express. To be honest, being in NA may not be such a bad option. These days after N'levels there are so many options for the students for those who have done well such as, Poly Foundation Programme, Direct Poly Programme. Doing well in NA could also be a huge moral booster and make her happier when going to school, still can get Edusave award too.

                        :hugs:
