Where to buy spectacles for kids?

I’m not sure if you have more than 1 kid and kids do spoil their specs very fast. and being able to reach there in a jiffy will help in such emergencies.

Thanks for the info! We have only 1 kid and this is the first time she's been diagnosed with myopia. My dh and I got our specs done at a nice place in Orchard Rd but, their options are expensive. And, like you said, we are afraid she may not be careful with her specs.

I agree with hquek about going to one that is nearby and convenient for you and your family. Very good for emergencies! Like hquek’s case, the optical shop that my whole family goes to provides "free" service like adjusting a pair of specs that’s gone out of shape, tightening a screw or replacing one, changing nose pads etc and besides, all our records are there, very convenient.

I believe many forumners have already mentioned to look for someone convenient. It really makes sense because you will probably be visiting them every half year for regular checks. We go to Optical 88 and often use their housebrand products. My kids are age 9 and 12 and have been wearing glasses for several years already (both starting around K2-P1).

We have been to many shops and all of them provide free services like auntiexxx said. This is the first time I heard that it cost $5 to change the nose pads. :yikes: Maybe it is because Raffles Place...

My son has been changing the spectacle frames so many times and still we can’t one that is truly comfortable!! He keeps complaining that either the frame keeps slipping down his nose or the grip hurts his ears after wearing for a while. As a result, he refuses to wear in class and his eye sight turns from bad to worse! I heard of Swissflex (heard it is so light that the child can’t feel he is wearing a spectacle at all) but I can’t find an optical shop that carries this brand. Many optical shops that i went to told me that this is just a branded spectacle, too expensive as just a frame alone, without the lens, costs more than $300. Considering that I have already wasted so much money on spectacles, I really do not mind investing on one that is really comfortable. If you know of any optical shops that carry Swissflex or if you know of any brand which is good, please share with me. Greatly appreciate!

I got that once at Capitol at city sq mall. But it was too flimsy, when kids played or fight, i had to keep going back to have it repaired.

These days, i go Owndays...get on the spot. The optometrists not bad.

If u wan cheap, visit Ta ching at manhattan house (chinatown). Good service also. I just tried them.

Foresight at Toa Payoh central carries this brand, cheaper a little bit compared to optics shops in town. Got one for DD, so far ok.
