Has anyone used my pals are here Homework books? Is there a difference in terms of difficulty between the Homework and Workbook? Tks!
I bought Homework books for P1-P2 maths as extra topical practice. It is like an easy assessment book.
Level of difficulty is not hard at all. Similar level to the Workbook (which my kid uses in school). Basic qns per topic mirroring the textbook and 1-2 starred (*) qns at the end of each topic that are higher difficulty than the rest. May be a waste of your money unless for simple use as basic revision per topic. -

peasants:
So gep students are PSLE top scorers?
For GEP students : most of their parents are expecting a minimum of 260 & above, for their children
For Mainstream students : can be a wide range.
Some parents are happy, if their child can pass PSLE (instead of channelled by MOE to a specialized Secondary school, for those who failed PSLE), or can hit Express stream (200), or can achieve 210 / 220 / 230 / 240 / 250 and above. -

GEP takes in top 1% of those who scored well in the selection test. The succeeding few % are not far behind. With proper training and hard work, I don’t see why top mainstream kids should not top the psle. -
phtthp:
I think for main streams , those parents of top classes also hope that their DC get 260 all the way up to 280 plus. If all things equal, those who scored way high in main streams, can't imagine if they were to put in same training as gep.peasants:

Em:
Whatever numbers which gep takes in are driven by policy makers, logically, if they put the top 2 classes of each primary school on GEP by default, I believe the exclusivity and elitism will be diluted, but in general, we will have more bright kids. Most of top 2 classes students got into 260 and above anyway.peasants:

To simply put it, GEP is TOP 1% and for most of these students to obtain above 265 is nothing unusual nor surprising. In fact, more than 50% will get at least 270. If those top HA MS students are able to get 270+ to 280+, I do not see any reason why GEP students can’t. It should be easily achievable for them.

Correct! If gep can't get 260 and above given their training, then gep itself makes no sense. But if MS students get 260 and above without gep training, and if these top MS students are put into gep, wonders will happen. -

I know of one top school in the North that do away with the math workbooks. The school booklist only shows that the students have to buy Homework book.
I think Homework will give more practice and the Tests will be more challenging. If you want to get your child to consolidate P5 maths work, get the Homework book. -

While it is true that GEP does take the cream of the crop, it is also true that the top student in PSLE need not be from GEP. This is the result of the intent of the program being warped by both incumbents and naysayers. GEP has been too politicized and misunderstood by parents, over the years.
