A pattern type of question also came out in 2016 PSLE exam.

        hazeline,

Yes, many 2019 P6 parents are fully aware that "Pattern" fall under Heuristics, came out in 2016 PSLE before, as well as in certain Prelim Top schools too. As such, before sitting for 2019 PSLE, many P6 students had already practised "Pattern" before.

        Reason being -
several primary schools’ class Maths Teachers in Singapore would have gotten all their 2019 P6 students, to practise full PSLE paper, for past 3 years, or even more. Teachers even request students to buy PSLE booklet (2016 to 2018), sold at $1 per booklet, from their school bookshop.

And some hardworking students do not just practise these 3 PSLE booklets once only, that’s it, go for exam, but also re-practise, by purchase another set of $1 brand new fresh new booklet and re-do one more time, to reinforce.

So, is not that they do not know, nor is it that they did not practise enough "Pattern" questions, because besides practise from PSLE source, they also practised a lot, from other schools’ Prelim past year papers too on "Pattern", because they are resourceful enough, to know where to "hunt" for other sources (besides PSLE source #1), to practise more "Pattern" questions

I am just puzzled why is it that you had mentioned repeatedly that this year paper is not fair due to MO type of questions. Because, from what I see, the questions which came out are within expectations. While there are more challenging questions, I think they are there for a purpose. And that is to differentiate the A* from the A students.

Agree. The paper was not hard for your everyone. You need not be GEP to find it a reasonable paper. As long as you were well prepared for the maths psle you would have found it totally manageable. Many students who worked hard for an exam of this calibre feedbacked it was totally manageable they finished well within time n even checked twice.

No amount of writing to the minister or moe is going to change the fate of the weaker students or those who didnt revise sufficiently from end of p5 to work for these exams.

Its 10% intelligence 90% hard work.

Good luck for the results n postings. You will get n end up where you deserve to be. Hard work will pay off.

I also share the same sentiments as hazeline’s observation. It’s PSLE Science paper today and people are still talking about PSLE Maths. I believe the papers is set within the guidelines by MOE and SEAB so just let them go mark the papers and moderate the marks. Are we raising up durian generations ? Look tough on outside but soft inside. Let the children experience a setback in life earlier is better for a parent to manage than to see the child suffer a bigger setback in life beyond parental control. Be patient, the results day will give us good news. Be positive and teach our children to do likewise.

                    My 2 cents…

My girl got the last qn on pattern correct. However I feel pattern qn should be removed entirely from PSLE exams. Pattern qns are such that sometimes you see it immediately and sometimes you just don’t. Even as adults. During time constraint, when one is anxious, spotting a pattern may prove to be even more difficult. It is tough to get even partial marks when one cannot see the pattern, unlike other heuristic qns. Hence, I feel setters should test on things which require more of logical process thinking than one which requires strong visual perceptual skills.

                        Agree. 🆒
It is not a IQ test, should focus more on mathematics.
