I think people came up with a simple multiplier factor just as an easy way for us parents to guesstimate. Since we will never know the mean nor standard deviation.
It’s not about spectacular kids or an issue with the range. The multiplier is problematic in the first place.zac's mum\" post_id=\"1948214\" time=\"1574479626\" user_id=\"53606:
Regular kids 0.72-0.75.
Imp75’s, Serendipity’s kid, Chewsy’s elder kid & other spectacular kids: up to 0.77
Or KSP wanna vote for our new range 0.72-0.77??
Firstly, school matters. Some schools are known for hard paper, some are more accurate representation of the PSLE.
T-score is a function of 4 individual subject t-scores whereas the multiplier applies to a total score. Student A score of 377 may not be the same as Student B score of 377.
As long as people understand that the t-scores here represent a range that the kid can get, I don’t think regular kid is 0.75 will ever be correct.
And that range probably came up by parents contributing their kid’s final PSLE result divided by the prelim total score.
Anyway, personally, I have no optimistic expectations of my kid scoring well. So I take the safer way and use the most pessimistic 0.70. Then I won’t get a rude shock. -

Hi,
For the third language, I have the option for french, German, Spanish, Japanese, and I don’t know which one to choose. Can you all give me your opinion on which one I should choose?
French: comparatively similar to English, more vacancies (~300 at Newton branch)
German: comparatively demanding grammar (besides masculine, feminine genders, also neuter gender)
Japanese: comparatively demanding scripts (hiragana, katakana, kanji)
Spanish: also similar to English, less vacancies (~125 at Newton branch)
There are Oral & Compo exams in Year1. -

i re-read the MOE issued to parents. The guide stated that the student needs to bring student ID card AND school report book. Sorry for my incorrect statement earlier.
wear primary school uniform, bring student ID (EZ-link card). Maybe some sec schools might want the students to bring report book but i think tat's not common nowadays.Kialoukui\" post_id=\"1947751\" time=\"1574385710\" user_id=\"182021:
What do we need to bring and wear on reporting day? 23 Dec 2019

@phtthp. I don't have the enrolment number for German, but it looks similar to the French one if you infer from staff strength:
https://www.moelc.moe.edu.sg/contact-us/
Spanish is easier but limited vacancies; German is more difficult but seems to have more vacancies. You don't need to pass (passing marks ~60%) third language to be promoted to the next year's class. Moelc just wants everyone to stay in the course as long as they can. (My understanding from them all is that,) So long as your own secondary school allows you to take third language (your sec school will review your overall progress usually at the end of Year2), you can do so from Years1-4 (without worrying too much). -
Thank you for advice, sky

Just wondering… Most mention distance as a factor in school selection…any parents here of older kids who travel to school?
Or anyone who does not mind the travel time and is considering a school that requires travel?
What would you consider as an OK traveling time? -

Majority of the people will fall within 0.72-0.75
It is not a 100% thing that all students fall within the range. It is only used as a guide that students’ tscore will likely fall within that range.
So if your tscore is more than 0.75 of your prelims, then you could jolly well say that you did better than expected.

My elder son studying in SJI, we lived in Admiralty. It boiled down to what ur kids really like the sch or not, if nearby n your kid doesn’t like the sch at all, it will be a pain to go to sch everyday. My son dun mind to travel 1 hrs to sch, he loved his sch n looking forward everyday

personally i feel tat door-to-door 45 min is roughly the max travel time for a reasonably comfortable routine in sec sch, considering tat they often have to stay late in school for all kinds of activities.
