My boy from a SAP Pri sch, and got score 264 with Merit in HCL.

We are unable to make a decision between Dunman High and VS (IP). We love the culture of both schools. We want him to grow up to be a more well-rounded gentleman; and also strong in Chinese. VS is also more conveniently located. But at the back of my mind didn’t want to waste the chance of getting him into a SAP school.

Any advise please?
My friend’s son got 264 and distinction in HCL. Will be heading to HCI (via DSA). Another option to complicate your decision making 😂

But seriously, you can’t go wrong with either option. Maybe have a talk with him and sees what HE WANTS. Maybe he has already decided, then go with his flow.

Contemplating between Nan Hua High & Catholic High (O level) as first & second choice. My boy’s score is 250. Any comparison or feedback for these 2 schools? Thanks in advance!
My son is studying in catholic high IP. He says the O level boys are very strong. The school gives equal emphasis on both streams. There is no discrimination/bullying in this school. At a COP of 250, the school ensures the standard of the O level. Affiliates can get in at 240, and it is still a very high express score, compared to others that accept at 230-220 into their O level stream.

Thank you Mr floppy,

Yes we will let him make the final decision.

It’s more of the dilemma where VS grooms them holistically whereas DHS is very academic focused.

A small fish in big pond; or big fish in small pond concept.

Can’t decide 😱

Commonwealth is an autonomous school and has a higher COP than Clementi Town and Fuhua. You can check out the Commonwealth discussion thread and the school's facebook page to learn more abt the school. Thus far my friend with a kid there says discipline is good.

Oh one more factor for consideration is that Clementi Town is going to implement Full Subject-Based Banding next year.

To double my understanding of s1 posting…

Tscore = 250 + 2
If 1st choice - scgs 252
2nd - RV 252
3rd - cedar o level 250

So posting is based on merit , my girl want to try her luck on scgs as 1st choice which most likely no hope, will it affect her slightly hopeful choice of RV?? Some ppl said putting the sch as 1st choice will increase the chance , this say is a myth??

Choice doesn't matter. The one with the higher t score will get his/her place first.

So the system will on-hold John's 1st choice for School A, till allocate all the place to Clare, Ken and Amy? If there is balance of place then only allocate to John?

Lets clear some misunderstanding on this topic. Remind all forumers tat the first statement about the Sch has COP of XXX is juz historical info as a guide. The Sch doesnt pre-set any COP. Think of it as the MOE supercomputer first ranks all nationwide students by T-score in descending order, then processes No.1 student's first choice. Only after posting No.1 student to his school will the computer process No.2 student. It is completely based on merit, meaning the n+1 student must wait for the n student to be posted before it is his turn. So even if the n+1 student puts ABC sch as first choice, the n student who puts ABC sch as sixth choice still gets priority to be posted to ABC.
I read the S1 sec school posting exercise booklet, Page 12 Clause 10.2, it says that John and Mary both have same T-scores. John put School A as 1st choice and Mary put School A as 3rd choice. John doesn't have priority over Mary. Since both have same T-scores, how they allocate?

Many of my friends said is CHOICE before MERIT because the student choose it as 1st choice. I am confuse over this with clause 10.2.

Since the brand new Eunoia JC is ready at Bishan Park to shift in Dec year-end, I think SCGS (IP) and (OP) Cut off point will rise, possible that it won't remain at 252 this year (2019)

Your daughter's raw Tscore is actually 250, her (+2) bonus for HCL, is Not applicable, because SCGS isn't an SAP school.
In short, her 250 (2 points off) is unlikely to meet SCGS COP at 252 for IP (based on last last year 2018 COP).
However, u can still put it in as #1 in your list, because #1 choice can be +3 to +5 points, above her raw 250

Suggest that, besides Cedar ( 250 ),
your #6 last choice, must be minimum at least 5 to 10 points lower, than her 250. That means, for your #6 last choice, should consider OP Secondary schools with COP 240

Because

The ground sentiment is that this year, not many primary schools do well, end up with lowered Tscore, than expected.
There are a number of 2019 P6 students who were happily anticipating, expecting 250 at least, but in the end, they ended up falling into 22x, 23x and 24x range, unexpectedly.
Not sure, has it got to do with changes to Psle marking scheme during those 4 Psle marking days, this year ?

Perhaps, the GEP primary schools are still able to hold their forte, by scoring (maintained) at least 250 and above, some into 26x, 27x.

Your last choice (#6) in your list, is very important. It is the insurance, or the \"catch-all\" OP school, for your daughter. If she miss this last #6 choice, MOE will post her to a nearby school (based on your postal code), that still has remaining vacancies, left.
