2019 PSLE Discussions and Strategies (Children born in 2007)

As a first-time parent of a child taking PSLE this year, I truly admire these 12 year old kids. Regardless of what the 3 digit number is on the result slip, they have completed their first national exams. They are still our children and they definitely deserve our unconditional love. I am extremely proud of each of them for completing their primary education.


My child is in a neighbourhood school, I have seen results ranging from 14x to low 27x. Huge gap. There were people crying in tears of joy and there were also mummies and daddies embracing their kids whom broke down in the middle of the school hall, crying uncontrollably…

I don’t remember PSLE being such an emotional and mental roller coaster ride during my time… So kudos to all the parents, especially the mummies.

From Jan 2020, it’s a brand new start leading towards another national exams in either 4 or 6 years time. May all of the parents and children be blessed with courage, health and wisdom to walk this journey.

And all the best to the future PSLE cohorts and their parents.

RGS, although shifted into brand new Braddell site campus, however, because 2020 Sec 1 enrolment remains unchanged, same as this year beginning 2020 Sec 1 intake,
even if were to rise, maybe rise at most (1 to 3 points)

Moreover, this year, RGS is very \"stingy\" with issuing number of DSA seats, for Academic domain like (Math, Science, English). RGS is prudent (cautious), in issuing COs. Although several good P6 students have applied for 2019 DSA, still, RGS is selective, in \"sieving\" out those she really want. But, being \"stingy\" in a way also good, because this means that more seats are left behind for students instead of being \"choped\" by DSA pupils, to enter via Tscore

Continue to encourage your girl to Keep up with her excellent work, ahead !
However, her Higher Chinese bonus (merit, +2 points), RGS (Non-SAP) school will ignore.

Just curious why RGS so stingy with DSA COs this year? So those who get CO are really good or just lucky or both?

How to define stingy? Anyone has the official number of COs RGS gave out? I went for RI post psle talk and they mentioned they gave out about 120 COs during this year DSA. That’s about 30% of a 400 cohort.

a)
if you not good enough (in their opinion), don't even get past the selection subject test stage Round 1, just give u a rejection outcome, even if applied for DSA

One of my friends spent around $688 package, sent her dd to teach her dd \"how to talk\" during interview.
By paying around $688, this DSA preparatory centre

- taught her dd, how to write Personal statement

- let her practise a mock-up interview, then played back the video clip to let her see herself how she talked, and the centre provided guidance and feedback, how to improve


After gone through the whole workshop DSA preparatory exercise, this pupil is confident.
Unfortunately, she didn't even get past the Round 1 selection test stage, because she wasn't short-listed, nothing at all. In the end, just received rejection outcome from RGS


b)
if u have been short-listed for a subject test (Round 1), attended the test
but not good in the test or didn't perform well at interview or not quite what RGS looking for, in the end still get rejected.

one P6 student was short-listed, to sit for both DSA Maths test at (RGS and NYGH).
After the test, she said that the DSA Maths selection test at RGS, was a lot more challenging (tougher), than that of NYGH test
In the end, also rejected by RGS


c)
if you are a good mugger academically in your own primary school in (P5 and P6) All 4 subjects, but never win competition in that subject domain u applied for , also received rejection eventually.
Eventually, these group of students who received Tscore (above 26x, 27x), can still enter RGS, by Tscore

Actually we dont really know how many COs given out right? Usually we just look around us, but everyone’s circle is limited.

I don’t think anyone has the official RGS CO numbers. But I Believe those who got COs are the cream of the crops in their domains.

Wow. Looks like RGS CO is the Holy Grail. How do we Ensure our child gets RGS CO in 2020, please advise thank you.

I know 2 girls who applied for the same academic domain… To my untrained eye, Girl A seems to have higher chance from every aspect I could tell…better results, better competition results, more eloquent, more real talent from my perspective. Both were not outstanding (thus on the same footing) in other non-academic aspects. In the end, Girl A got waitlist while Girl B got CO. I believe luck plays a big role, just like in any major test/exam like PSLE. For this year, RGS DSA only has one round. Either make it or break it for this one round.
