Even schs reopen, they will keep the recent measures of min. Interaction among diff classes.

The only question now is how many ppl working with the migrant workers who may work with those living in dorms, have kids and families and goes to schs here. They are the only link to them now, if local transmission reduce further.

Even with schs remain close, no use if their families members still go out everyday and bring them to markets etc. The kids are still exposed.

From what I see, our govt is not favouring a harsh lockdown, else that would have been done right from the start. Their approach is rather progressive and reactive, though Im not saying that is good or bad. But they need to weigh it with our very interlinked and fragile economy. Another month of lockdown means pushing us all back further into a more negative recession. We have not really felt the full effects of the recession yet with all the huge govt stimulus supporting almost everyone. There are many different camps now, some want safety, some really need money to support their families. Govt has to have a macro view approach. And yes, work and schools go hand in hand. But personally, I feel as long as local cases are down, it is ok for schools to reopen, as long as everyone wears mask and still practice safe distancing (which they do sit 1m apart in class).

              Hello Mks! +4weeks...

              (1) My P3's mid year assessment is cancelled, & there wasn't much HBL work in the 1st 2 weeks; but, the amount seems to be gradually added. This week, the form class (split into smaller groups of 10 or less students per session) start meeting up Live online (Google Meet; school has assigned students with individual Gmail accounts), just to touch base on general well-being.

My secondary school ones are busy, very - but, one of the principals wrote to inform us Not to worry. For them, there will be No weighted pen and paper exam, just focus on skills and content, plus there'll be recovery of content (if necessary) once school resumes. For the other, Moelc has released (last Friday, via teacher by email to students) an updated assessment plan for Term2 (comprising of assignments, SLS quizzes).

I believe that teachers know best, & would leave it entirely to their discretion.

              (2) If the tuition centre can convince us that its online course is deserving? of our time+resource investment, we would naturally continue to support their online course...

I guess P6 should have many zoom or google meet for chers to deliver lessons. It just crosses my mind if the kids will have any backlog in learning new things or not .. for lower pri, my impression was they watch some online stuffs then do some qns..new concepts/topics also like that mah? I m not so sure tho.. if 1 mth hbl can 'simply' but 2 mths quite difficult yeah..
My P4 has been learning new concepts and topics thru SLS. Basically, Math and Chinese (those subjects that are heavily textbook-based), the teachers have been following their normal lesson plan for Term 2. Every day learn a bit of the new chapter, then do workbook, activity book, watch teacher’s video explanation to self-mark. Teacher will put online quiz or feedback form (“exit ticket”) at the end of each topic. If the child got any questions, can type to ask for clarification.

Some teachers go beyond their duty, they have consultation sessions at certain day & time by Zoom, if any child need to consult them, just arrange to join.

Form teacher called us from time to time, check on well-being.

MOE asked kids from selected levels (P4 included) to do a survey in SLS today. Asking various feedback on their HBL experience so far (including screen time etc).

So far, I don’t get the feeling that child is missing out on any curriculum. The school teachers have been diligent in placing their Term 2 curriculum online for the kids to learn.

And I do get the sense that they care for the kids. Pity them for having to work so hard to prepare their own videos etc. Some topics they use suitable You Tube videos by other international educators that are already available.

Sorry phtthp, I didn't manage to get good answers for your previous question, so I was unable to get back to you... I'll ask around for these 2 subjects...

On a separate note, Moelc has designed an Moelc HBL survey (apparently, the heads are interested to know...) - do look out for the link from your Moelc teachers... 😉
