Lessons at home!

phtthp:
Hi! I've asked a few places, the split into 2 groups scenario is Not likely to happen....when Term 3 school open in June, after May school holiday, are there parents out here, who still prefer online tuition to continue...instead of \"face-to-face\" physical classroom premises teaching,...That means, for the same identical level tuition,...split into 2 group of students for tuition
1) one group of students will attend \"face-to-face\" classroom physical premises teaching,...
while
2) another group of students will continue to attend \"online\" virtual classroom via zoom / google meet...
(1) If the centre has a Live online lesson package alongside a classroom one, we can sign up for that.
(2) If the centre does not have a Live online lesson package, once CBreaker ends, plus intermingling of students (from different schools) no longer disallowed, then classroom lessons will be resurrected, no more Live online replacement. But, I know that, for guardians who are still concerned, (some) centres provide an alternative option of a pre-recorded video lesson. In fact, this pre-recorded video lesson option has been in place (for these centres I inquired) since early this year, so... -

Principal’s letter issued yesterday, indicated that school has decided to reassign slightly higher weightage to the SA2 exam. I expected this and not too bothered about it.
My DS school did not announce anything about how they will re-apportion the remaining weighted assessments. Maybe not decided yet.
Will be dropping the non-essential tuitions. Decided after evaluation that the online tuition is just too time-consuming, energy-draining & not effective for learning. Wasting my precious money during this period when finances are tight. Anyway P4 is not a crucial year so it’s no big deal to stop now.
Heard some rumors that the school will be streaming the kids at the end of P4 year, based on Maths results only. I don’t really believe it’s true. Firstly it’s strange why use Maths results only. Secondly I thought MOE said no more streaming except for SBB into Foundation/Normal level subjects for P5-6? -

zac’s mum I’m impressed how your DC has developed so much interests at P4 age! He certainly sounds very independent & accomplished. Good training. I like a home w/o TV. I can’t do w/o one myself unfortunately.
My DS school did not announce anything about how they will re-apportion the remaining weighted assessments. Maybe not decided yet.
Even though I am WFH and in a very busy sector, I am relieved that I don’t need to juggle supervising of HBL during May holidays. I’m grateful for the 4-week breather for me.
DS is P4, independent enough to find things to occupy his time, screen free. He has plenty of own hobbies that can be done at home, offline. Designing own games, playing music, reading books (both hard copy & free Kindle ebooks). Sometimes he will watch National Geographic kids. DH is considering loaning a TV (we don’t have one!) for them to play Wii Fit games together.
He has been trained not to disturb me when I’m busy with my work. So I will leave him to plan his own leisure activities during May hols. Anyway I’m around to monitor him.
-
Hi Zac mom,
end of P4 streaming, cannot be based on one single solo subject (Maths) only, out of Total four P4 subjects ?
don’t believe in those spread-around rumor in your school.
Sometimes, people sent out false rumor, for selfish competitive reasons, so that other parents will let their guard down, ill-prepared their children for end-of-P4 streaming, while their own children prepared very well, for All subjects.
Normally, is based on Total of three P4 (English, Maths, Science) subjects at year-end,
Or
Total of 4 subjects in SAP schools, because Chinese is compulsory in SAP schools.
In Non-SAP schools,
because Mother tongue is Not standardized, can be Malay / Tamil / Chinese,
so schools tend to base on Total of 3 subjects, sometimes even 2 subjects -

Not streaming per se, but could be using maths ability to group the kids. Possible, I heard rgps use maths too, because maths will be ramped up in p5 in depth and pace. I heard these pri schs finished main maths topics by p5 so only revision left in P6 to do harder questions.
In those schools the variability in learning among the kids in Eng and Sci is lesser.
Maths is the only subject which split these kids apart -

Anyway, doesn’t really matter to me whether got HA class or not. Whether Maths ramped up pace or not won’t really matter for my boy. -

Whether Maths ramped up pace or not won’t really matter for my boy.
Our kids had streaming in p4, so twins were assigned to classes by results. My boy is doing well in his class now, thanks to streaming, I find him more cheerful and out spoken this year, maybe because he is more \"seen\" and \"heard\" now than before. I have teachers who come to me telling me, he never know my boy can be so cheeky and talkative. ( Just so u know, he didn't get into the top classes so many are aiming. But I am not troubled by it too.)
Yes, I agree, parents know their kids better, so have faith in them. My kids never have tuition b4. Only my boy started Chinese tuition this year because we want him to speak better.
Your boy is already more independent than p5 kids I know. We hv a TV at home but seldom switched it on, but these past weeks, their TV screen time has exceeded the quota for entire 10 years of their lives... Lol
My girl has not stopped reading since HBL started, another set of problems. I scratch my head on how to motivate her to use her time more constructively, making something, rather than just reading. So far I only managed to get her to create a online quiz on a book she has read. She wrote about it in her journal entry to her tr and sch posted it on student sharing space online.
They are practising piano well, tr see them online every week to check on them. Tr organised one online recital and another one next sat. Good for the kids to play and enjoy.
Student care called us to check on the kids! They are planning to do something via online to help parents handle this coming school holidays. Could be online class doing and checking assessment books, or more social stuff like online talent show.
I am thankful -

This is a myth. There are contents that are to be taught in P6 only. Just look at any P6 textbooks or MOE Syllabus :-

For certain contents (Patterns, Model Drawing, ...), some schools teach \"more\" than others but all schools will cover the syllabus.
