Tuition centers should not force parents to accept digital learning at full fees.

All parents who are looking out for a better alternative elsewhere, a Chinese tuition centre to change to, can consider \"Etern\"

The owner, Mdm Chen, is a very patient, humble and gentle speaking, dedicated Chinese teacher. Those of you who know her, or who have sent your kids to her tuition class, will agree.

      personal sharing experience -
Last year 2019, my child joined her tuition centre last minute very late,
only towards the last 2 months, from August all the way right up to PSLE, Mdm Chen had helped my child improved tremendously, in Higher Chinese (\"gao hua\").

Mdm Chen's daughter (Zhong ying yi),
was also amongst one of the Top National GCE O level past cohort batch, back then in 2011.

by the way, wish to highlight that i am in no way related to Mdm Chen.
is just that from my own personal experience, I find her a very good Teacher, rare to come by, hence feel that she deserved special mention.
Mdm Chen have the genuine heart to teach. We should give credit, when credit is due. And this is the time. :salute:

If you are interested, below is her online as well as regular Term time 2020 time-table.
can give her a call, ask how she can help your child, improve in his (her) Higher Chinese / Standard Chinese (PSLE / O-level)

For online lessons, Mdm Chen use interactive technology

Thank you, for your patience, in reading.
Thank you, will check them out since they have online lesson so distance is less of an issue. Hopefully can see other parents come forward and share good quality and niche enrichment centre that deliver value.

        Dear Parent and Tutors,

As a father of 4 and being in the IT industry for 30 over years, my perspective is the current industry adoption of a merely a web conferencing tool such as Zoom or Google is inadequate. In essence, web conferencing is not the equivalent to the MOE’s Student Learning Space (SLS) nor the Blackbox (adopted by tertiary institutions in Singapore) which is a learning management system.

With the adoption of adoption of a learning management system, online learning can remove the many constraints of a traditional classroom. In fact, online learning can be better than a traditional classroom learning given the vast benefits of digital such as personalised learning, outcome based learning, self-regulated learning, interactive content learning and artificial embedded learning.

In the longer term, as has been encouraged by the Singapore government, tutors and tuition centres should disrupt their business model by going digital and reap the benefits of online learning. The new normal will entail the tuition industry to build a presence digitally and to adopt learning management system that will differentiate their teaching capabilities. Then the full fee is not an issue - in fact parent like myself will be more than willing as our children are well cared for.

        Thank you.

this online tuition will remain, even if no more covid-19

there are parents, who prefer online tuition to stay. Hence, some tuition centre have started create \"permanent online tuition \"

so, traditional tuition centre(s) with fixated mindset on \"face-to-face\" classroom teaching business-model, need to keep abreast with global changes taking place rapidly.
This covid-19 has caused many students, to enter digital age fast

I think e-tuition should be fine for older students, those in secondary school and JC. However, tuition centres should at least provide basic services. They should print out and send the tuition notes to the student’s house by courier.

Which tuition centre is professional enough to provide such a service during this period? Only Mind Stretcher?

I heard some still charge full fee and expect parents to do all the printing.

Yes online lessons are more suitable for secondary and jc students and perhaps those who have better self disciplined primary students.

Busy bees do print and send out materials. We also have a 15% discount for the 3rd term course.

Of course there were some teething issues in the beginning like late arrival of materials, calls or emails were either unanswered or took a long time to reply but after a week or two, things have more or less settled down.

Feedback from my child is lesson is still ok. Doesn’t make much of a difference to him between online and physical lesson but that’s only his opinion. Others might have other opinion. No right no wrong.

Many centers print and send by post or courier. Mind Stretcher is not the only one.

I heard from a colleague whose daughter goes to a relatively well-known but small scale tuition centre for IP science and Math tuition. Tuition starts at 10am but only receive the materials 30min before start of the tuition and expect students to have the notes printed.

Maybe smaller scale tuition centres = lack of professionalism. The bigger players are probably more structured except the one at Novena.

It doesn’t take 30min to print documents on a home printer.

TLL has started mailing out worksheets fortnightly. And they have relented and moved to Zoom.
