      At popular schools at least:

      Income loss for alumni
      - who still wanna join that?

lesser 20 places for everyone before 2B
      - 2B still will have 20 only la but the 2A will have a fiercer fight.
      - 1km is more important (sale and rental prices to follow)

      fairer to the teachers
      - how can the $500-paying alumni get in via 2A1 and the 2A2 teacher’s child not have a place? (in the event that 2A1 takes all the slots)

      more places for 2C
      - good new to the 2C applicants - your chances just improved. (maybe doubled, more like 50% better IMO)

        Wow, game changes!!!

<New P1 registration rules for 2022: More places to be set aside under Phase 2C to ensure more kids attend school near home>

From next year, while 40 places will be set aside for Phase 2C, Phase 2B will continue to have 20 places.

          If combine

Phase (2A1 + 2A2) together as one single phase, then will parents still proceed continue to

          - pay $1000 alumni fees to join Nanyang primary alumni group, or

          - pay $ 500 alumni fees to join
(Catholic High / RGPS) primary school alumni Association ?

          - the same will apply to ACS (Junior + primary schools + St Nick + SCGS + MGS + Henry Park)

Once combine (2A1 + 2A2) together, means 2A1 have lost the advantage for Admission, right ?

All SC living outside 2 km, will compete in intense balloting in these very hot, popular primary schools.

By default, every one (SC) staying more than 2 km gets thrown into the 2A2 ex-students common balloting pool

          Can u see it ?
From whom, do these Phase 2C students grab or "snatch" away more seats, more places from ?

          Answer

obviously, is from those SCs staying more than 2 km, in these competitive, popular schools. Ex students in phase 2A2, staying more than 2 km, are "forced" to give up their privileged seats now, via balloting.

With this change, 2A1 parents can only bite the cherry once. Unlike last time, can bite the cherry twice :-
If unsuccessful in 2A1 balloting, still got a 2nd chance to go back to alma mater (Ex primary school). Now, no more. Gone with the wind !

          Example

Say from P1 to P3, you studied in Ai Tong primary. Then at P4, transferred into GEP (Nanyang primary).

Previously, u got 2 schools to choose from. Now, with this change, u got to decide once and for all -

Do u want to enrol your kid under Ai Tong, or under Nanyang primary?

Honestly, I don’t think it changes the game THAT much unless one is gunning for a school that regularly has only 20 vacancies left by 2C, which is only really a small handful.

The big shock is the merger of 2A(1) and 2A(2), which comes as a sudden surprise (and double whammy) to whose that are paid up alumni members waiting for next years’ exercise:

Reduced vacancies due to the 2C ruling + advantage effectively neutralized.

            Expect SNGS/CHS/ NYPS to ballot for 2A between 1 km- 2 km…

Slight adjustment in how they calculate home-school distance also

Like what was mentioned, no one will join alumni or school advisory board next time.. 😂

Actually if you ask me, this part (merging 2A1 and 2A2) is drastic and sudden.

By no fault of their own, next year's 2A(1) parents are penalised for planning ahead but that's how the government is..

I think once they combine (2A1 + 2A2), expect to see balloting taking place for SC within 1 to 2 km, for these popular schools, not beyond 2 km anymore

                  - ACS (Junior & primary)

                  - Catholic High

                  - MGS

                  - St Nick

                  - Nanyang

                  - Henry Park

                  - Rosyth

                  - St Hilda

                  - Nan Hua

                  - Tao Nan

                  - Ai Tong

                  - Kong Hwa

It will be very competitive at phase 2B for schools with religious affiliations, clans, PV, grassroots.

Very interesting! So the urban legend that the home-school distance was measured from one particular school’s flagpole was probably correct then.
