I noticed that most parents are like me. Mostly reprimands, very few compliments. (except autumnbronze :celebrate: ). Is it our culture to do so, or are we afraid that too much praise will have adverse effect on our kids?

I have a reason markfch.

I was brought up in a how do I say, a \"harsh environment\" where my best was never good enough and praises were non-existent. It took a lot out of me to build a healthy self-esteem/confidence on my own and of course thru the help of some wonderful people and teachers.

When I was ready to start a family, I made a promise that I would never emulate that particular aspect of my parents' way of upbringing.

And yes, I think it has to do with the culture and also how the parents themselves were brought up ie vicious cycle.

3. Please tell your teacher if you need to pee pee

4. Please wash your hands before and after you eat

At home:

4. Cannot say cannot, must say I will try

5. Purposely or accidentally? (when he does something naughty)

6. Why are you being so irritating on purpose

wah autumnbronze, what a long list. Luckily you not my mum (joking joking). But at least you try to praise your ds daily too, unlike me :oops: .

My DS only 3 yrs. Haven't given up hope on him yet :evil: :evil:

To my 14yo dd, I have a long list too, but too :oops: to list them all here lah.


This year Mother's Day, dd made me a card. Inside the card, its the long lists of all my nagging.

Recently, I begin to gain \"enlightenment\" :idea: My naggy is getting lesser and lesser. Why? Because I realised nag or no nag, makes no diff. Might as well save my breathe and energy and be happier

1. Chew. Don't just leave the food inside there.
2. Faster. I'm going to be late already.
3. Stop talking and close your eyes. (Bedtime, boi can this 2 gals yak-yak-yak :roll: )
4. Don't stand so near the TV. (Fri, Sat, Sun)
5. Che2 went inside the TV already.(Fri, Sat, Sun)

err.. after re-reading the title of this thread, I wanted to clarify. These are NOT my Fav words but more like words I repeat multiple times almost everyday. Looking forward to the day I don't have to be so naggy. :roll:

my hubs tried counting, I said it at least 10 times a day to my boy.
Now hubs also wan!!!
