      Hi Taurus,

My current maids biodata states metric which is equivalen to abt 10 yrs of study. My previous maid says she has 10 yrs study and did not complete her University. (dont think she made it to university) cant speak english at all. Anyway dnt look too much or believe their age and qualifications cos the agent there wrote it for them. In Mynmar, if there is a protest, the university can close for a few months to two yrs besides their education level is extemely low.
I m living with my mum now so my maid is with us. Her previous employer is working so they let her do the housework in the nite and send her n their 2 yr old son to the grannys home every day and fetch her back in the nite. There is a Indon maid at the grannys home so she just help out but concentrate more on the boy.
Have u taken a mynmar yet? basically they are quite obedient n would do anything without complaining i.e. if they understand yr instructions. Somehow the mynmars remind me of the indons when they first started coming to spore, BlUR!
Thks for ur info. Finally just chosen one last nite, today the agt will let me knw whether is still available..... past few days, what has been decided, when get bk to agt, she says taken up... she says Mynmar now in demand cos shortage of Philipinos maids and Indon maids nt cming in till after Hari Raya, tat's why very fast been taken up esp Mynmar maids usually in open listing...

Harder to hire Filipino maids now

        http://singaporemaid.blogspot.com/2010/08/harder-to-hire-filipino-maids-now.html

Please feel free to comment in my blog.
i am stuck in this hoo-ha.

my 4th maid betwn this 1.3yrs decided to resign on us on my girl's 1st birth-day on 23rd Jul, after staying w us for 1mth.

i was sick of going through changes of maids in this 1.3yrs and i know even if i hire another, she will be away sooner or later (either she cannot work or she cannot tahan my mother).. in the end, decided to call my #1 who completed 2yrs contract with me. she was agreeable to come.

we remit some money to her, so that she can fly to manila from her province (to await for further actions from my agent's counterpart in manila) and oso so that she can give some money to her son and mother.

but that's when the hoo-ha was starting in end july.. no available tickets to singapore and in august.. . not possible for her to come in oredi..

during this period we learnt alot

        1. POEA documents - that is the embassy contract, u must give her $540 SIN which is USD$400 and one day off every week.
Those agencies who have maids coming in with this piece of document also have a side contract with her, over ridding the POEA documents. But if one day, the maid decides to turn against u.. u will be at losing end.

        2. maids come in as tourists as indicated in the article that was posted, this was viable last time... and in fact that's how most maids arrived singapore last time.. But now...with this hoo-ha event, there are a few rounds of interviews at immigration.. mostly are \"off-loaded\" and turned back at the airport, even if they have a valid \"return air ticket\".

i took a risk and tried to fly in my #1 maid, after 1.5wks of the hoo-ha (coz agent say the last round this hoo-ha occured, it lasted onli 1-2 wks) To make things more realistic, we even remit another amount of money (As advised by the agent), so as to make it more real that she is coming as a tourist for a holiday under our invite. who knows she couldn't clear the interview.

Now I am stuck in this hoo-ha.
        1) $$ remit to her 1st time for her air ticket frm province to manila and for son + mother
        2) $$ remit to her as advised by agent
        3) $$ that was leftover from the upfront loan of the self resigned maid.

argghh.. i dunno why i am always so suai w maids.

I have a problem with my maid and hopes some one can enlightening me on this issue.

I have a good maid who gets along well with my family. She is supposed to return home after two years contract in Mar 2011. But due to my family situation, I need her to go back this year instead of next year. She asked for salary advance of two months as I am asking her to return home earlier than expected.

She is a good worker and she has a sister in singapore. Do you think I should give her the salary advance?

your maid is very good at negotiating...

maybe her sister can sign a document as guarantee. if she failed to return, you can claim from her sister.

sorry i really dont know abt it. haha

U can check with yr agent early whether the maid u took is on the way to spore as the imigration there can be quite strict.

I will not give her advance salary. Many cases they will not return.
No point asking her sister to be guarantor, she can act blur or gang up with her sister, you never know.

U r very kind employer, can let the maid nego with u. Did she tell u she will chose to go back after her 2 years contract? Maybe she can accept renewal in March 2011 w/o going back?

For me, I won't give her the advance salary. Chances is they won't return. Not dishonest but \"shortsighted\". Having 2 month salary on hand make them think that they are rich now, no need to work anymore.

Totally agree with the comment that maid is rather \"shortsighted\".

I wouldn’t lend anyone money, least of all my maid.

This is because I never know how to ask for the money back.
This had happened to me many times when I was younger.
$100 here, $200 there, and I end up broke myself.
So now older and wiser, I steer clear of such situations.
Now when a friend or coli ask for a loan. I reply with: "I don’t have any money to lend you but I can buy you simple lunch?"
