i know when we did DD’s birth cert 3.5yrs ago, they allow us a ‘14 days exchange’ grace period ie any amendments within 14 days no need deed poll…

Does the Registry of Births encourage the inclusion of the hanyu pinyin name in brackets? Really makes the name so long and cumbersome.

my idea is just to give my gal eg Apple Tan 陈苹果 but the dad wants the statutory name to be in too!!

Not necessary.
Babies only need one name in their birth certificate, other names are by choice.
DD has her name in English and in Chinese characters (by choice) in her birth certificate.

but my husband insisted on spelling out ie he wants the birth cert to show "Apple Tan Ping Guo 陈苹果"

he feel this is more ‘proper’ and others / teachers won’t ask how come this child dun have a proper name in future.

Thanks for all your advices. I’ve asked my friend to call ICA. She called immediately and was told that she can either:

1. go to ICA with her hubby. Both parents must do a declaration to have the hanyu pinyin name deleted from the BC and pay an admin charge for the birth extract.

or

2. wait till the child turns 15 yr old when she gets her new IC. During that time, parents can fill up a consent form to request not to put her hanyu pinyin name, no admin charge.

So now she has to decide which she wants to do it.

We recently changed a Chinese character in our 9 y.o boy's birth cert, just go to ICA, a level above the passport collection, to process the change. Paid $x for 1 character change, get an extract an hour later. Very simple process.

According to the officer, the original BC will have to be returned to them and from then on, you will only hold a Birth extract.

Does the Birth Extract look the same like the original?

My child's name on IC is also in this format. Tan Ping Guo, Apple 陈苹果. We do not want a dialet to English translated name eg. Tan Peng Guo. Feel more comfortable to use han yu pin ying - Ping Guo but Tan must follow the dialet and not Chen. And the so call \"Christian name\" Apple is behind the main name. We are quite particular on this.

The worst thing was, the Chinese character name must be hand written by one of the parent. And my dd's birthcert has that very ugly looking hand written chinese character by ME!!!!
