that percentage for the RI pri math contest round 1 wasn't the candidate's maths score. I remembered that it was the percentile for the candidate's position. Eg if u are in the top1%, the percentile is 99.00%.

I remember both were given - percentile plus percentage score. This was a couple of years ago though.

yes both were given this year too

Am I right that not all schools participated?

Yes, you are right. During DS3's time, Nanyang was the overall winner but none of their students is in the final list this year. If I did not remember wrongly, Tao Nan did not participate then but now their students are in the finals (based on my assumption that students from popular schools should be able to make it to the final compared to those from neighbourhood schools as they are able to field more participants). Having said that, some students from other schools may have participated but didn't get into the final round which explains why the school is not in the list.
Training and passion do help a child in a way but IMHO, the most important factor is the child must be gifted cos no amount of training is enough to prepare a child for such tough questions. DS3 has a best friend who is in the top position in class and level every year but never make it to the finals in such competitions. More like a bookworm who regurgitate everything.

The prize presentation for the finalists was this morning. Tao Nan emerged as the top school, with 10 gold, 11 silver and 21 bronze (iirc). Additionally, 2 students from Tao Nan clinched overall champion and overall second respectively. (one of them is me…!)

Never heard of this competition. See so many finalists from both famous and neighbourhood schools. Just recall my dd, lazy, careless and not keen in her academics was reluctantly asked to represent her schools in various maths competitions all the way to olmpiad senior category. Never show any comittment still able to win honours for her schools. Till today, regard all her wins as totally underserving compared to manyu other competitors.

                        7 * 5 * 4 * 3 = 420
The 6 and 2 is redundant, since any number which is a multiple of 4 is automatically a multiple of 2; any number which is a multiple of 4 and 3 is automatically a multiple of 6.
Primary schools will probably only teach the listing way to find LCM.
