      Hi all,

Can you share recipes for food that you used to cook in a slow cooker or a thermal cooker?

Normally I used my slow cooker just to cook soup. Just simple soup, like pork ribs with corn / lotus roots, beef with carrots, etc.

I don't know what else to cook and what other kind of soups to cook.... :? Thanks ya.. :celebrate:

Been also trying with different recipes that I got online.. the lucky part is that I got a small and easy to use slow cooker from a local company call Emsworth.

Is anyone using La Gourmet 7 litres pot? The one that comes with an extra inner pot? I was at taka and i saw the pots ($98 & $129 with free food jar) but couldnt decide betw the 5ltr and 7ltr pots. Im not very sure what i can use the inner pot for…

Is it better to buy a 5litres pot or the 7litres one that comes with an inner pot?? There are 4 of us in the family (2A2C). Can someone pls share? Tks!!

I am using the Thermos 5lt (there are 4 of us in the family) and that is sufficient. However once every week the extended family comes by for dinner (altogether there would be 18 of us, incl kids, if everyone turns up) and that 5lt really won’t be enough even if all of us just takes a small bowl of soup.

            My concern are

            1) to boil for 20mins, don't really save much energy.
            2) simply put the carrot and potatos into the thermal pot, will the taste be out ?

            :?
If u are fussy about the taste, then thermal pot cooking is not for u. I cook my soup on charcoal fire for years. My family went to my sister's house for dinner and she cooked soup using thermal pot. Guess what, only her family drank the pot of soup, my family didn't like the blandness after tasting it.

But thermal pot cooking offer the convenience to working mums who need to prepare dinner after work.

I find that if I boil the soup for a good hour or two, then leave it inside the thermal till night, bring it out and boil again for 15-30 mins, it’s pretty ok. Of course one will never get the depth of a double-boiled soup or one that has been simmering for 5 hours, but this is pretty decent. And you do save energy (as well as time) as compared to a 5 hour cooking time.

I just bought an Endo 6 Litre one few weeks ago and it was a life saver !

                We’ve cooked the following soups:
                Corn with Pork Rib Soup
ABC Soup (Carrot, Radish, Potato and Pork Rib)
                Old Cucumber Soup
                Winter Melon Soup

However we are not sure what dish to cook for the smaller inner pot. So far only tried rice and stewed chicken

Did any mummies cook fish / egg / tofu with the small pot ?
We cook from 7am - 7pm so was wondering whether the fish / egg / tofu would still taste nice after 12hours ?

                Thanks for your help !

Hi have a thermal pot from thermos. Works like a dream but vvvvvv expensive. I think I paid 299 or something like that.

I am thinking of getting another one but a cheaper one. Anyone tried the cheaper brands like Takahi, La Gourmet etc. Any good?

Oh BTW, I saw some posts about the blandness. I find that the water you place into the pot must be less compared to normal cooking. Then the soup will be sweeter 'cos there’s no evaporation and too much water will dilute the soup. HTH

I was told that in order to bring the flavour out from the meat/vege, u need to boil >30mins, and not just enough to cook the meat. Well, at least I know this applies to lotus roots, old cucumber and some tuber soup my mom makes!!

Yes, for me, I usually prepare the soup early in the morning. Boil it, then turn to lower heat. Then I’ll go prepare myself and kid, and by the time we are ready to leave home, I’ll then turn off heat and put in thermal pot. It is still hot and quite favoured by the time we are home for dinner.

Someone just gave me a 4.5 L Zojiroshi without the instructions n told me the outer pot cannot be washed or it’ll lose its efficacy. Sounds absurd to me. Any comments on this??
