Do non-GEP student has much chance with DSA

Thanks Jenn for the insight. You are so right, i am not too keen on NUS High as I have yet to see the actual result from the pioneer batch of students. I guess only the good students will get to NUS or other good Uni but what abt the average one????
Anyway, I will prepare my child not to put too much hope on DSA but to concentrate on the actual PSLE. THANKS again.

Yes, I am curious to know more too. My son from mainstream had a bronze but did not get pas the first round during the DSA. He got in via his PSLE results. Overall we felt the mainstream pupils seem to be disadvantaged in the DSA exercise.

Unlike HCI they state there clearly the must for at least a sliver in Maths Olympiad if you are from mainstream or otherwise a sport talent of their list of games(selection trial needed), else it falls onto phase 2. Already, there are so many SMOPS winners on waiting list. You will need extremely good result to just get yourself in waiting list in phase 2.

Your son must have performed very well for his Maths selection test. Which primary school was he from? Is your son in RI's Maths Club? Since he was admitted through his Maths Talent, is he required to participate in Maths Competitions? How did he perform in his S1 Maths Tests so far?

Yes, I beleive that parents should allow their kids to attempt DSA if they are keen on a school and kid had show consistently good results in one or more subjects. They need not be in the top in school or have won Olympic awards.

DSA results do turn out surprises with some good but not top and non olympic award students being admitted. It is also true that some top in school and silver award winners do not get any place at all in DSA.

Do not think that students with PSLE score below the school cut off of 260+ will not do well in these schools. Many of those admitted thru DSA have abilities not reflected thru PSLE scores or Olympic awards and can compete with the high PSLE scorers.

Min 80% applies only to GEP students. They are exempted from GAT if their average is more than 80%
