      In PSLE Science, students learned that the digestive system comprises the:

      -Mouth
      -Gullet
      -Stomach
      -Small intestine
      -Large intestine
      -Anus

      Digestion begins in the mouth. It is completed in the small intestine.

      The question asks a student to explain why and one is expected to give the reason/cause on why something happened.

      My suggestion is to keep within the syllabus. I think it’s good enough to explain that more digested juices are added in the small intestine and digestion is completed in the small intestine.

      (My answer is based on information from the old edition of PSLE Science Guide, please refer to your current textbook/guidebook to see if more information is added)

      What is the difference between the 1st edition and the 2nd edition? I bought the PSLE science guide for my elder boy when he was in P3 2 years ago. Now when my younger one is going to P3 next year, its already 2nd edition.

        No. This is because Science for primary school is divided into lower (P3-4) and upper (P5-6) blocks. Schools can decide the arrangement of topics within each block.

        The easiest way to tell which are the topics that will be covered at P3 is to check with the relevant school directly.

        If you download the <b><a href=\"http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/syllabuses/sciences/files/science-primary-2008.pdf%22%3EPrimary Science Syllabus</a></b>, you will find the topics that will be covered at each block on page 10.

          I am not too sure as I don’t have a copy of the second edition.

          Some topics such as The Solar System, Simple Machines, etc are not covered in the new syllabus.

          For current students, it’s good to refer to the latest copy of the science guide.

            The 2nd edition is tailored and reorganised to suit the current PSLE Science syllabus ie section A on the revision notes based on different themes (Lower/Upper blocks).Section B (Process Skills) and Section C (Case studies) remain the same.

            Section A (Revision Notes)
            Theme: Diversity
            Level: Lower Block
            Chapter: Classifying Things, Living and Non-Living Things, Plants, Animals, Fungi and Bacteria, Exploring Materials.

            Theme: Cycles
            Level: Lower Block and Upper Block
            Chapter: Life Cycles, Matter And Its Three States, From Parents To Young, Reproduction In Plants, Reproduction In Animals, Water And Changes of State

            Theme: Systems
            Level: Lower Block and Upper Block

                There were some Science guide books and assessment sold at Popular roadshows earlier...bought some of them, thinking I landed a good deal...until I realized they were old syllabus 😒 😒

                'Diversity', 'The Solar System' are not taught in upper primary...now stuck with a pile of old books.

                  Question: If the water of Container Z is poured into Container Y, some water will be able to flow in. Explain why water can flow in?

                  My son's ans was: There are spaces between the marbles hence water is able to flow in.

                  The school marked him wrong and the given answer was Water has replaced the space taken up by the air.

                      There are air spaces between the marbles hence water is able to flow in to take its place.


                      Keywords -

                      air between marbles,

                      water replaces the air or
                      water takes the place previously occupied by the air

                        IMHO, it has nothing to do with PSLE standard answer. Sorry, Janet. πŸ˜‰

                        Sharmila, your son's answer is too vague and did not explain his understanding of the concepts learnt under properties of matter clearly.

                        As the question had already stated that \"some water will be able to flow in\", so the second part of your son's answer is repetitive of the question and incomplete. In this case, the concept of DISPLACEMENT of air spaces between the marbles by water should be clearly stated. If your son had added the word \"air\" before the the word \"space\" depicting that he is referring to air taking up the space bet the marbles and carried on to write \"to take its place\" depicting the displacement concept, like what Tang had suggested, he would have gotten it correct.
