Hi, I am deciding between a brand new JU109 at $3350 during this Yamaha festive sale (which is ending this fri!) or a 18 yrs old U10 (same as U1 in S'pore) at $4k+ from Century Piano. They claim that their pianos are original from Japan with reconditioning.

I hope to get a good piano for my 7yr old girl who had just started learning for 5 mths. But a brand new U1 is really out of my budget. And I'm also worried that her interest may not sustain for long.

      Appreciate your advise :thankyou:
You may like to check out on Hailun HL125 and make a comparison with JU109 before you make up your mind. The manufacturer has positive feedback in the PianoWorld forum. In new condition, it's still within your budget. You can trade it back for 50% value within 5 years (I think) if she lose interest.

Some dealers may not be too willing to take back pianos older than 20 years. Better check with Century Piano how much they would pay to take back the piano if she gives up. It would be good if her piano teacher could test the old piano before purchase.

Hi Peanut Butter, thks alot for the advise! After some analysis and calculation done by my hubby, he decided that we might as well get a brand new U1 instead. Although its really expensive, we still have our younger DS to use it if my DD is not interested to learn after a few years. If my DS also not interested, at most sell it away to minimise lost.

This will be the most expensive piece of \"furniture\" in my house and I really hope that it will not be a white elephant. πŸ™

          No worries.
That reminds me of my aunty who purchased an old musical furniture simply because it matches well with her brick wall and book shelves.

If you buying Yamaha, use the Maybank Friends and Family card to get an extra 5% rebate. πŸ˜‰

              sleepy:

Why must split the bill to get full $430 rebate?
I'm using Maybank card too, mainly for groceries

Your piano cover is 3/4 length right?
              Hi sleepy,

Split bill cos was told that maximum cash rebate per card per year is $600....Already used the card for some other small purchases....

Yap, piano cover is 3/4.....but DH prefers to see more of the piano, so we folded it, only covers the top... πŸ˜„

Yah thats all. Should be standard package i guess. Which Yamaha did you buy from? I bot from the PS branch. Told them to deliver next week (after christmas)!
                Hi Vicki,

got mine from the Frontier branch.........The delivery guy says someone will call within 3 weeks to arrange for tuning....So the brand new piano is not tuned yet?

The sales person says during the six years warranty period, better to tune twice a year as recommended....

Whenever a piano is moved from place to place, it'll go out of tune. Usually a new piano will be tuned just before delivery to your home. But a few weeks after delivery, the piano will go badly out of tune again. This 2-3 weeks period is needed for the piano to stabilise in the new environment, after which you'll have to arrange for the tuner to come fix it. Subsequently every 6 mths per tuning is recommended. Read somewhere that failure to tune a piano for an extended period of time will permanently damage the quality of the soundboard.

Did anyone went to this website to search for piano?

By the way, can someone list down the location where we can find new & used piano? So far just went Robert Piano at Centrepoint, they mentioned that they are the Authroised for Kawai piano in Singapore.

                      Hi,

Does anyone knows whom I can engage to test out a 2nd hand piano? Any recommendation?

Last year, we scouted for 2nd hand pianos. The ones I would recommend to pay a visit are:

Century - at Kallang Leisuredome (think 4th floor): used piano. The owner Patrick is a very engaging and helpful guy.

Zadok - Shaw Plaza at Balestier (think also 3rd/4th floor). They have Yamahas and Kawais - owners are very pleasant also. Quite good returns policy (eg if you buy and then wish to return within a year or 2).

Their prices are pretty ok - all depends on the make and model and year of manufacture.
