There are only 2 this year. 1 from RV, 1 from HCI.

RV also has 3 students awarded medals by Institute of Physics for topping Physics. HCI has 2. Total of 10 in Singapore.

      So well done RV! 😄

      WeiHan:
RV's top student gets 9 distictions. Tan Zhi Xiang

9 distictions in A level is probably a small handful. Less than 5 probably each year.

Think there are 3 from RJC this year[/quote]1 from Temasek JC. 3 from RI gets institute of Physics award. Same as RV. But you all have to take into account RV's cohort is only around 400 which HCI and RI has 1200.

I was still thinking only 1 get 9 distinction, did’t know only so few in national level. Its a very good booster for the juniors to work hard. No wonder dd told me she saw reporters in school this afternoon.

Hopefully P can give more statistic on Monday in terms of whole RV performance.

Well done and jia you for all the juniors!

Rosecy, your dd this year right?

I already say there are usually around or less than 5 each year at national level getting 9 distictions for A level.

Around the time after psle results was released, I predicted that RV's cop will rise 2 points this year. It is time for me to make another prediction. RV will deliver her first President Scholar in this decade this year. Let's see.

River Valley High's top through-train student
By Mustafa Shafawi | Posted: 04 March 2011 1520 hrs

SINGAPORE: The 'A' level results are out and the 2010 cohort did better than the previous cohort, with 90.8% of students scoring a pass in at least three H2 subjects and in General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry.

The Education Ministry says this is the first time the figure has breached 90 per cent since the curriculum was revised for the 2006 batch of A-level students.

                      In 2009, it was 87.9%.

14,280 school students sat for the examinations last year.

Among those who received their results on Friday was the first graduating batch of students from River Valley High School's Integrated Programme.

The Integrated Programme, also known as through-train programme, is a scheme which allows the brightest pupils at secondary schools in Singapore to bypass the 'O' levels and take the 'A' levels, International Baccalaureate or an equivalent examination directly after six years of secondary education.

River Valley High's top scorer was 19-year-old Tan Zhi Xiang who received full distinctions in nine subjects.

\"I've never been the top student in RV before. It just came as a surprise for me. I think it opens up a lot of possibilities for me. I'm currently making a choice between teaching and law,\" he said.

Zhi Xiang said his experience as a senior in St John's Brigade in his fourth year and sharing his experiences with his juniors made him want to take the teaching path.

As for going down the path of law, he said he wants to make an impact on the international stage.

\"My ambition is to be an international lawyer and fight for human rights,\" he said.

Zhi Xiang said there will be a lot of reflecting in the next few weeks to decide which path he wants to do down.

Private candidates who sat for the exam will receive their results by post.

They can also access their results online at http://www.seab.gov.sg
