Gate duties are v impt 'cos the school compound is small. There are cars and big school buses moving into the school compound. And there are a lot of kids trying to cross over to the school building. Kids, being kids, they will dash across roads without checking.
Also when it rains, kids need to be ferried to the main school building if they don't carry umbrellas and there will be even more kids trying to dash across
. In fact, when it rains, the VPs will actually come out of their offices with umbrellas to help ferry the kids or direct traffic
.
The school has 3 gates, so will need parents to be stationed at each gate to ensure safety of all kids getting into the school. They have security guards but guess the school thinks that they need extra pairs of eyes 'cos the kids come from everywhere.
Performing gate duties dun need a lot of time....current practice is only half a hour once a week for the entire 1 yr PV period. -

tamarind:
I think it is good that they don't make it compulsory. I notice that a lot of children have enrichment classes outside school and that already takes up some time. So it is a matter of whether the student has the time and interest in the CCAs offered in the school. I am not against CCA, in fact I think it can help the child learn teambuilding, discipline, organisation skill as well as getting to know friends who share the same interest. If the timing is right and the CCA is of interest to my son, I will not hesitate to let him sign up for it.I heard from the principal this morning, that CCAs are NOT compulsory in West Grove. If our kids are taking swimming lessons, then we can actually inform the school, so they don't need to take another CCA !
What do you parents think about this ? -

Another mommy complained to the principal that her kid has to do the grammar book from page 20+ to 90+ ! I wonder if her kid heard the teacher wrongly.

Agree with you that the gal probably misinterpreted the teacher’s instruction. In my boy’s class, the grammer exercise was not done in the order indicated in the content page but rather it was based on the topic that the teacher was teaching at that time.
