I’m not sure about students not allowed to drop MSP. My school certainly allows that, but probably your daughter’s school doesn’t? Why not ask the teacher why the dropout rate is low?

Many of my classmates scored A1 for MSP this year. So I guess it’s relatively easy to score? I’m not sure about the situation with other third lang so can’t comment much.

No, MSP is not compulsory in any school. But Conversational Malay is.

How do you encourage/help your child sustain in third language rather than giving it up easily especially when school work, CCA and projects are under tight schedule?

Zann , I am in the same situation as you. My DS is juggling with homework , project work , revision , CCA and Japanese (every Tues) and only day he reach home at 0400 pm is Monday. And 0400 pm is the earliest he will ever reach home . He is not complaining much about school but it does make me heart pain to see him go through this at Sec 1. I am seriously thinking of dropping Jap and just after 2 mths ?? Any advice ??

Hi, I've been taking french for 1.3 years. French is not counted in my school (it's a choice). I've been coping quite well with school, even with school programmes on every single day of the week. If your son does his work with no procrastination, i can promise you that he will not sleep later than 11 every day.

my DD also taking French, and she is coping well. it is indeed heartache to see her working on so many subjects. But it will benefit her for learning 3rd lang, provided she likes it and able to cope:) As parents, we should let the kid decides.

It seems that Japanses as third lang can’t survive as long as the others.
