All About SAP Schools

mummy so kiasu:
My boy is not keen to do higher Chinese in secondary school and Chinese is his weakest subject. Currently, he is in P5 and his strength is in Maths and Science. We would like to send him to SAP school due to only express stream is offer in such schools.
Express stream is offered in all schools. HCL isn't compulsory in most schools, except possibly for the SAP schools. So your options are wide.
Note that many of the IP schools are also independent schools and hence school fees will be high too. -

if able to enter IP school, then mostly can qualify either the EESIS or the bursary or the school's own financial assistance / awardmummy so kiasu:

My son is in P5 in a SAP school…dropped HCL at the end of P4. He doesn’t hate CL but coming from Eng-speaking family, it’s naturally tougher. Anyway, it is a blessing he dropped it bcos P5 is very tough.
Daughter is not in SAP school…school gives the option to do HCL if results are good end of the year but can drop if unsatisfactory. I’m not too concerned whether she takes HCL or not…just hope that she can continue with affiliated sec in Sec 1 Express. -
Kuo Chuan Presbyterian primary - is another school that starts HCL P1 Term 3 or Term 4.
P1 Term 1, all pupils start on equal footing. By end of Term 1, Chinese teachers will know if student can do HCL or not. Term 2 onwards, send for enrichment lessons. By Term 3 or Term 4, P1 start HCL. -

I thought P1 students start with HCL in SAP schools. They continue with HCL until end of P4 and drop if result at SA2 is not satisfactory to continue. Understand RPGS also teaching HCL but not using Higher Chinese textbook.Kuo Chuan Presbyterian primary - is another school that starts HCL P1 Term 3 or Term 4.

hi, can I check, are all SAP schools considered GOOD schools? We're thinking of Pei Chun Public School. There seems to be balloting each year. Does it mean it's a good school? Thanks.

Hi, within the list of SAP schools, I reckon that there are varying HCL standards amongst the schools. Would anyone care to comment on Kong Hwa’s HCL standard?
My boy is developmentally slower than my daughter (fraternal twins) in all aspects (other than sports and games, haha), and boys being boys, his short attention span doesn’t help much. What my daughter can master within 0.5hr or 0.5day (she usually breezes through anything cos’ she’s very competitive), it may take him a couple of days before he finally sees the light. I send both to Berries, but can tell that although he’s better off with enrichment classes (than without, just based on kindergarten syllabus alone), he’s struggling with the Chinese reading. He memorises the words in sentence structure, rather than individual characters.
I’m quite worried for my boy, what with KH being well-known to be homework-intensive. If he really doesn’t fare well in HCL, can he opt to drop it before P5? -
Hi,
Would appreciate some advice.
Between Poi Ching that is within walking distance and RGPS. Which is the one to go for? In terms of sch awards - POi Ching pales in comparison to RGPS.
I read in this forum it is because POi Ching is a new school but found on Sch website that it gained it’s Sap status in the early 90s. -
Is it more stressful for the kids who study in SAP schools?

I can't speak for others...but I AM.
The standard in SAP schools is generally higher than others...was told that even though my son doesn't take HCL at P5, it doesn't mean normal Chinese would be easier and I agree totally.
