Eczema or Atopic Dematis

Hi all… ezcema is never contagious… but if you have ezcema and any of person around you has it… best is not to stay too close to each other. Otherwise, you would have the “itchy” feeling psyochologically… I am having ezcema eversince primary sch and never outgrow it even now in my thirties… I would say ezcema is in control, but if it goes to adulthood… it’s very hard to go away… My brother just didn’t get it…

Foreverfriends:
My hubby got ezcema after his brother and nephew got it. Then my elder son got it. My baby got it when he was few months old. It seems contagious. I am still breastfeeding my baby. He is 24 months now. His ezcema flare up when he perspires. His condition is much better though from all joints to right ankle joint now.
I think it probably runs in the family, not contagious, its genetic. -
tree nymph:
Yes, tree nymph is right. Eczema dermatitis is not contagious. My son has it since infant years, even till now at 8. His skin is very dry, and can't sweat too much, if so rashes flare up. Unfortunately, he has multiple allergies inherited from me :-(. Grandpa has food allergies, so it runs in our family.Foreverfriends:

deminc:
Hi deminc,
Just out of interest, did anyone's child who has egg allergy and eczema, had a bad reaction to vaccination? My son went downhill after a vax, and this was before we found out about his egg allergy. I really don't know if there's any relationship, but we were so spooked we had put the other jabs off until he's older and needs to go to school.
My son avoided this bad reaction to vaccination when he was young because our pediatrician advises us not to, as he was then allergic to eggs. Every allergy reaction was trial and error. Therefore, the MMR booster (if I'm not wrong) was done in school only last year when he turned P1. The nurse actually called and double check if I was sure if he should go ahead with the injection. So I said yes, as I feel his immune system has improved, and since K1 to P1, he can eat a lot of more diary food (that he was allergic to).
After the jab, he was fine, there were no flare ups. So relieved with the result, I let him try fried eggs and wala, he can eat eggs now! -

Unfortunately, there is no cure for eczema. I suffer from it and it leaves ugly scars on my legsMy boy has been having itch behind his knees and on his fingers for 2 weeks. There are no signs of mosquito bites so we thought it was a heat rash and applied cream. It seemed to help at first but now it only provides a bit of relief for a short while. Last night he woke up crying due to the itch and was scratching like mad. It stopped only after I put ice pack on it.
Now I think it may be eczema. Will prob bring him to the doctor tomorrow.
Does anyone have kids with eczema? It's like little bumps, not really red. I was reading about it online, seems there's no cure! Any recommendations? -
I attended a forum on atopic eczema last week at SGH.
The dermatologist give us a reference website which I think is very educational. You can read about the care, treatment, relief of eczema. There are also games and children's books for download all related to eczema. They also teach you FTU (finger tip unit), a guide about how much cream to apply.
I took the dermatoglogist advice and bought from Guardian a ceramide moisturizer cream for eczema on my foot. It has worked very well for me. Ceramide cream has higher lipid and more moisturizing. It's much more expensive ($22+ for 75g) but my problem only on small area, so it's okay.
The website is http://www.staphy.com

Hi
Anyone tried Neem oil or its lotion for eczema & any results? There is a shop called NeemShop at Novena Square 2? Any side effects?
Thanks -
Hi; I co-author a Singapore blog on allergies and we've interviewed some of SG's top doctors about eczema.
There are some great tips from Dr. Mark Tang at National Skin Centre at
http://sneezywheezy.com/?p=580.
Also, an NUS study found that the stress of caring for a baby or child with eczema can have a negative emotional impact on the mom. The moms in the study felt down, isolated and stressed out. We wrote about that this week, at http://sneezywheezy.com/?p=1060.
One mom, meanwhile, shares her story - on how taking care of her baby induced stress in her life & marriage, and how she ultimately learned to treat and cope her child's condition. To read her story, click here: http://sneezywheezy.com/?p=1036.
There's help out there! You are not alone.. -

My ds is enzymic as well. I use Cetaphil shower as well as Cetaphil moisturing cream. The best advice i had when he had rashes was to bathe him in/with ABC Guiness Stout beer. No kidding, it works!

Personal experience in adult eczema
1) started around 2008 (age then 47) after taken some Glucosamine.
2) visited western doctors, given steroid cream, failed to help.
3) visited famous TCM, spent lot of $, EYS, BTRT etc, all not helping.
4) chanced upon Chlorella (Holland and Barrett), recommended by friend as daily supplement.
5) Eczema healed, after detox flush 2 days later.
Food to avoid: Chicken, diary products (especially cow milk of any kind), peanuts, soya bean.
Root cause for me: poor digestive system. -

Hi, just wanted to check with u. How did u find out the root cause of yr eczema? I went to NSC twice. Both times they prescribed oral steroids. I do not have eczema until last yr . Also no family history. Doctor said I was allergic to paint. Second time said I am allergic to sunlight! Just had an outburst again yesterday when I finished my course of steroids. Even the antihistamine cannot stop my itch which is only on the arms and legs.
Very desperate now as I don't want to see him again as they will prescribe steroids again. -
Sharing my own experience as someone who has suffered from eczema for over 20 years. For me, other than avoiding feeling stressed out (my number one trigger), the most important thing to do is to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. Currently my favourite lotion is from the Physiogel range. I react to an incredible number of commercial moisturisers, but this one works well for me. Actually the best i’ve ever used is an Australian baby product, but it’s not available here so i resort to next best.
Other things i avoid: synthetic clothing (e.g. polyester), scented products, makeup, commercial laundry detergents. -
@Breadandmuffins:
Root cause derived was my own opinion, is digestive system + stress + weather.
My eczema would healed by itself when I was in China, or France etc dry countries.
For your condition, I would advise to avoid peanuts, chicken, prawns, milk or raw fish, any raw food would trigger the itch.
Externally, must avoid bar soaps. use QV, Cetaphil etc PH balanced soap. Bath not with hot water, and < 3 minutes, followed by quick wipe, minimize contact with water!
If you would, try Chlorella (Holland and Barrette), after taken the supplement, I seldom need moisturiser (I use Physiogel too, its greatest but most costly  ). I recommended a Hong Kong friend whose son was suffering similarly like the condition you described, and she reported great improvement within days, at least his wounds and itch dried up quicker than before.
Warning: Initial side effect is detox type of LS (diarrhoeal)
Relax and go botanical garden more often, will help too.
Best of luck. -
I went to Holland and Barrett and got the chorella. They also recommend Burdock Root. I also use Manuka Honey with UMF 25 to heal the wounds as a result of the constant scratching. Hands look horrible now but at least the honey works wonders on my skin. It only take two changes of the dressing (lined with honey) for a wound to close up. Skin very very dry and itchy after the wounds heal. Slept with the bandage (lined with honey) for the last few nites , helps to prevent me fr scratching but can’t sleep cos skin so itchy and yet cannot scatch…urrgh.
Also taking antihistamines and trying many moisturiser. Personally like the Neem lotion (a bit of cooling effect) as well as Physiogel Intensive Cream. The California candela cream is also calming on the skin. -
wow, IMHO Manuka UMF25 is overkill for the skin, UMF 12 is good enough for the skin…
But, itch must be due to food, in order of my allergy:
1) Peanut
2) Chicken/ Duck
3) Shell fish: prawns, etc
4) Milk
must avoid heavy food, go on light, soupy diet will help.
never bath with hot water.
Good luck -

I had bouts of severe itch in early adulthood and urticaria. After asking me about my diet, a senior dermatologist put me on a chemical-free diet for three weeks. That took care of it. He was Dr Lawrence Leong. I had the sudden onset of rash and I ran to the nearest building I could find and his office was the first one I came to. I went to him three times, all emergencies, before he put me on the diet. Sadly, by the time I became a mother and needed a dermatologist for ds2, I learnt that he was retired. When I took ds2 to NSC, I learnt from the doctor there that he used to be the head of NSC.
Anyway, you can also look up food chemical, salicylate sensitivity. The \"treatment\" for this is to remove as much chemicals from your diet as possible and see if the symptons are relieved. If it improves, you can slowly add food back into your diet, making periodic adjustment according to your personal threshold. After I went on the three week diet, the periodic itching in my palms and feet also went away. After the episode, I realise that the itching was due to msg when I eat out.
hope you find relief soon! -
