      3boys,

Think I mentioned this before, I not very good in words, especially engrish, in fact, I flanck (dunno how to spell) English paper.

so affordable may not be the right word, but if u take the public transport you will know what I meant.

Actually, whatever the position ('cos I am still on the fence and a bit blur) I think it is wonderful to air these views and that PAP engages WP on this publicly (and vice versa) so that ignorant people like me can develop a deeper understanding and be able to decide on a position eventually.

I very much enjoyed Josephine Teo’s article on this topic in today’s Straits Times. If we don’t talk this through, there will always be a section of the populace who might suspect foul play etc… Good to air this linen, even if it is clean. Then everyone can see it is clean.

        I’m still watching and learning.

Just now in the afternoon, I was trying to take a bus, but the bus arrived only after 20 mins of waiting. Compared to other waiting for 30 mins, this one is short lah. I was frustrated because I was late.

Maybe you may say, fare increment has nothing to do with service, but tell me, if someone provide bad service to you, shove the bill to your throat and tell you, no matter what, you have to swallow this, no matter what. you had no choice, because only one provider around.

              Yes, I understand.

My caterer tells me, \"I need to raise my prices by 15%, plus monthly retainer.\" He says, \"Because I cut my staff, I can only do a delivery once a day instead of twice a day.\"

So how? I call the competitors, prices have risen since 2008, minimum order size has grown, some ask for retainer. :slapshead:

As you say, price increase, service standard lower, very hard to take, isn't it? But you want to keep jobs for high earning Singaporeans, what to do?

Choice is a mirage, an illusion, in this environment. SMRT have an image problem, because they are seen as a monopoly supplier. They raise fares, everybody scream, MONOPOLY! I don't see how competition will help any in the transport sector.

I am not nitpicking, but I think if one is using a point to support a position, it needs to be substantiated, yes?

Why can't it goes into somebody pocket? CEO and managers managing a company of this size fetch this kind of pay in the market.

If they can deliver, why not.

Ask the public, can they deliver? Did they deliver? Consumers are the best judge.

Extra-ordinary salaries for extra-ordinary talent.. fine..

Extra-ordinary salaries for.. watever you called it.. well..... YMMV..

Looks like Extra pay for ordinary work to me. :siam:

Does this happen on our trains?
Patience Chief. It will be soon, very soon, I think.

Fare increment will not result in less traffic jams. A train just caught fire today, probably motor overstressed.... this is how SMRT tries to satisfy you all -.-

You are right! But in Europe, at least you have a choice! You want to go from one place to another you can take company train A or company train B, you have a choice.
SMRT and SBST do not introduce new bus routes. They do not plan bus routes. They only manage frequency and bus deployments of EXISTING routes. Thus whether or not you have a choice is entirely up to LTA to decide as they are the ones who create the routes. Why does SMRT and SBST have to take the blame for something they cannot control?
