My daughter's 12th birthday is fast approaching and I'm desperately thinking of something to get her. She said to me the other day...\"12th birthdays are very important, like the Chinese calendar, its one cycle. So present must be something special also ok?\"

She's not into dolls etc. She's quite athletic (plays badminton), and has all gadgets, such as iPhone 4, Wii, laptop etc.

Would appreciate any ideas you may have.

      Thanks in advance.
      Bring her indoor rock climbing?

      Suggestions aplenty...
you need to know your daughter's love language... then you know what she appreciates.
Some appreciate time with parents, others appreciate physical and tangible presents, etc.

This is a beautiful discovery tool for you to solve this and future birthday presents...

How about a day out doing something adventurous like the MegaZip at Sentosa, followed by shopping together for a suitable birthday present. It’ll be a memorable day and the present will be linked with the memories of the day.

our present to dd for her 13th birthday was a trip to the studio with 4 friends to record an album. they sung 4 songs and each girl received a cd with pictures of them on it like a real cd. but that was when we were living overseas.

i know there are music studio here like li wei song music school, music clinice etc. maybe they have such a service.

We took our dd to her favourite restaurant which she enjoyed very much. We also gave a gift card from her fave shopping place- Diva’s for her to shop to her heart’s content.

She's 12. She shouldn't be dictating what is and what isn't an important birthday. And what is she doing with all the gadgets anyway - apart for the Wii it sounds like she is a businessman!

Take her somewhere where she can be a child. An adventure playground, a waterpark, rock climbing as someone suggested. There is plenty of time in life for material consumer goods. Give her a birthday that she wont forget, not something that will get obsolete and end up on a mound somewhere in West Africa!

An outing to watch a world class sports event? I remember I enjoyed my first Konica Cup at Singapore Badminton Hall.

Oh, it was surprise lunch for her. We got her cousins to take her to the mall with her fave restaurant. I got her younger bros to wait at the entrance with birthday balloons and surprise her. I had invited our close relatives to share celebration and the look on her face was priceless... ;D

Our dd does not have those gadgets mentioned, I think she can wait some more years... I now prefer to present with experiences than stuff!
Memories last longer than material things- imho 😄
