I'm sure not all MGS kids are from Christian families. But as a methodist school, they are bound to have some faith-related influence. Also, methodists have advantage under phase 2B, and the others under phase 2C.

I am a buddhist - Do they talk alot about religion in school? Easy for someone who is non-Christian to integrate in the sch?

oh...i assume sherwood and Mayfair are within 1km?

Mayfair definitely...Sherwood is on the periphery I think but u have to note that they are leasehold.

              Thought Mayfair is also leasehold?

What can we expect during the orientation? Do we buy uniform & books during orientation day?

Thank in advance for answering my questions.

You would first have to find out which class your daughter has been posted to and then send her to the relevant class. The class teachers will pass you some forms to fill up at the class. You will then leave your daughter in the class to play some ice breakers with the teachers. All parents will then have to go to the auditorium for a briefing by the school principal. Once that is done, you can go and buy books from the bookshop, uniforms from the canteen, make arrangements with the school bus driver at the canteen, and then pick up your daughter from the class / designated place.

To avoid unnecessary crowds, you may want to purchase the books and uniforms ahead of orientation:

The MGS textbooks, workbooks and exercise books can be purchased online from http://www.pacificbookstores.com once the MGS booklist is uploaded on the website. You probably could check with them in Oct / Nov to confirm when the booklist would be available. You could arrange to pick up the books from their office in Ayer Rajah or arrange for home delivery with a fee incurred. One word of caution is that you should thoroughly check that the correct books ordered have been delivered.

You could buy the uniforms from Bibi and Baba at Shaw Centre (next to Isetan Scotts) or Yang Tze Kiang (next to Teck Whye LRT). The uniforms at Bibi Baba are more expensive but of a thicker quality than the YZK which are slightly cheaper. For P1 and P2, your daughter would probably need to wear PE attire 3 times a week and uniform twice a week. The house T-shirt can be ordered through the school in Term 1. P1 and P2 girls can wear their PE attire to school but not from P3 onwards as they would have to wear the pinafore below.

It would be advisable to get an A3 sized basket for your daughter to be placed under the table on the first day of school. This basket is used to keep the books under their desks.

As for CCAs, you could check the MGS website in Nov for the updated list of CCAs and the schedule. The form should be submitted once school re-opens. The CCA buses do not go to all parts of Singapore. It would be best to check with the ops manager.
