DD is opting for JC in 2 years time. I am seriously considering SAJC as an option in view of the fact it is just a 4 mins walk from home. As JC students spent almost entire day in school, being near home is a very important factor.

SAJC is a good second tier JC.

If your dd is in one of their niche performing arts and sports CCA, you may wish to consider DSA.
If you applying to get in thru JAE, you may want to check what is their L1R5 for admission.
Also, please consider whether your dd can continue her CCA there or join one that interest her. CCA is a very important part of a JC’s student life.
Lastly, consider what subject combination she wishes to take up. Sciences or the Arts and the requirements for each one. Not getting her dream subject combination can be demoralizing sometimes.
She is lucky to have you who thinks ahead and plan for her. All the best.

I think the most important thing is that your DD hopes to get into that school too! Some students already have their dream school way ahead of time.


In any case, the most important thing is to build up her foundation, that is her GCE O level results. If she doesnt do well for O levels, it wont do her good even if she managed to scrape in or DSA in.

It is extremely stressful in JC as all lecturers and tutors (JC teachers) will inform you that your A level journey has started on the first day of school and you’ve got no time to lose. Especially for sciences and maths, complete comprehension of the GCE O level syllabus is assumed as stepping stones.

Agreed! My assessment is a student needs to be at least 'high' average and willing to work really hard to enjoy success at A-level. This route is definately not recommended for an average student. Its common for a straight As O-level grad- student in science and maths to fail some subjects in jcs.

SA is known for its playful culture… But really in any jc there will be stress esp when exams are near.

I dunno about the working hard part, but during my time is was play hard, party harder.

I recall that we always seem to have a celebration for some event every week... both in school and outside. And every weekend is party time.
Me and my classmates always wondered how we managed to keep up with our schoolwork back then.
