NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)

hi neptune1000,
is yr child already in NUSH ?
if not, perhaps let yr child stick to a non IP school instead (in your unique situation). Let him / her complete the basic core minimum 4 yrs first, get a decent, proper GCE O level certificate. After 4 years, then bring your child overseas with you to complete his further studies, if you as a parent intend work overseas. This way, you can stop your dilemma.
besides, having a GCE O level certificate is beneficial & useful to him in the subsequent later part of his career - should he go for interviews one fine day and can produce a decent, proper O level certificate to show.
my personal opinion is … it shouldn’t be because of your own work nature arrangement then disrupt or interupt your child’s education, which is far more important. Try to put your child’s education first and foremost as higher & greater priority - over and above your own personal work arrangement. You may go overseas anytime, but station the other parent back in SG (your spouse) or a guardian here to supervise your child to finish and complete core, basic 4 yrs first. There is a differene ! It is not because your child can’t cope with 4 yrs education here, hence you want to take him out of SG. But rather it’s due to your own work issues arrangement.
reason: the GCE O level cert is recognised globally, internationally, with no dispute. In contrast, the 4 years accumulated school grades - be it from any IP school or from NUSH, is still uncertain, still in doubt, questionable by organizations, locally and overseas. -
if a candidate already possesses a higher qualification than ‘O’ level (for eg, poly diploma or uni degree), employer won’t need the O level cert, suffice to say that the child was in the IP school.
unless the child could not even graduate from the IP school and hence no A level or without NUSH diploma. but didn’t we covered in other discussions that if the child’s school deems the child "could not make it" in the through train/IP scheme, they will be asked to do O level or transfer to other sec school to do O level ?
surely those who continue to year 5 / 6 are deemed capable of achieving decent A level result / graduate with a basic NUSH diploma as their years 1 - 4 results would pave the way for them to proceed ?
of course those who contemplate going overseas after year 4 is a special case but if the child has been good, the school progress report with their beautiful GPA grades would also put then in good light in overseas school. why worry ? -

yup, we are talking about dropping out due to relocation and not 'doing badly' here.
I think u shd just proceed with NUSH and not worry too much for the overseas posting.
Think overseas schools will be very impressed by the modules of NUSH coz (as discussed earlier here) even the Y1 are taking on some 'O' & 'A' topics.

Thanks a lot for all your valuable suggestions. It really helped me to come out of my dilemma.
My daughter has not started going to NUS-HS. She will be going from next January.
As my husband was here on a project basis, he had to go back to India this year. I am here only because of my daughter’s passion for going to NUS-HS. But staying all the way for six long years alone in Singapore would be very difficult. Hence, as NUS-HS has modular curriculum, I was hoping that my daughter will be able to complete the first 4 years in just 3 years and then we both can go back to India for her further studies (i.e. 11th and 12th).
However, as NUS-HS doesn’t give an O-level certificate, I don’t know whether she will get admission into any good school for class-11. Anyhow, I need to check with the schools there at a later date.
As suggested by you, I should allow her to continue studying here without worrying because the curriculum is simply great.
Thanks a lot for such useful information. -

If your husband not working in Singapore and you are not employed here or a PR here, maybe you need to first check whether you can stay long term in Singapore before planning next steps.
Suggest that you also talk to the school and see what advices they offer if you want your daughter to stay only 3 years.
If the 3 years not be recognized in India, your daughter may have to start from sec 1 again? -

We are PR. So I guess staying here should not be a problem.Neptune1000

Yes, I think I need to talk to NUSHS regarding what kind of certificate they give if at all my daughter leaves in between.
Also, I need to check back in India whether the certificate given here will be considered valid there.
Life is not easy when children are growing up. -
Would like to check about MT and Higher MT (Chinese) in NUSH.
Received a letter from NUSH to select 2nd language. If my DS chooses to take HMT, does he need to attend both HMT and MT lessions or only HMT ? -
Only HMT

Hi,
I’m P6, and I have a CO for NUSH. However, I’m quite worried because NUSH is new, and I don’t think all universities accept their diploma, although famous ones do. Let’s say, if I cannot go to prestigious universities due to personal issues, will lesser-known universities accept the diploma?
