River Valley High School [*IP]

I read rumours that MOE is going to terminate government schools from recruiting their own SM1 scholars from mainland china. As you may know, RV is one of the very first school that successfully did this. It has its own tests, interviews and processes in recruiting these chinese scholars, completely independent from MOE’s unified examinations. RV has probably the most success in this endeavour and my speculation is that MOE even copy some ideas from RV. I am not sure how the new rule will affect RV.
I seem to be able to make a speculative connection here. Remember that some alumni chairperson talking about RV going independent? This could be part of the reason but I am only speculating.
RV has signed contract with one or some up and coming good schools in china for exchange programme. The take for RV is that it is able to use the school as a base to recruit promising scholars from sec1-sec3 and JC1. The give is that, RV will train and bear all the cost for teachers and management staffs that this school send to RV. RV probably got the money from Chinese Chamber of Commerce. I am not sure how the new MOE’s rule will affect RV’s programme such as this. -

Heard that 160 places taken up by DSA students. So left 240 places for Y1 next year.

How does this compare to last year? -

Hi Pepper SpiceThanks for the welcome.
Justsay, for 1st choice, my son chose 3 sciences + geography. I wasn’t very comfortable with him doing 3 sciences because he is not the hardworking type and his HCL is not good. However, he says he finds the 3 sciences interesting, so he wants to have a go at it.
For 2nd choice, he chose 2 sciences + biomed elective + geography.
It is good that your son is interested in Science and go with what he is comfortable with.
Btw, just got a broadcast message that the subject combi to be released on 26 Nov. -

If I remember correctly, last yr during the open house talk, the VP said about 60 places taken up. Any parent attended the talk last year, please correct me if I am wrong.sall:

those given CO may not have opted RV ultimately. i am sure many have CO from a few schools.
best is to call RV to check the actual DSA posting on thu

160 and 60 is a big jump. Iam not if it is because RV is more relax or more students are applying. If all factors remain the same and the psle T-score distribution curve remain unchanged, RV COP maybe at least 2 points higher. -

Was at the RV open house as dd was peforming. P said from next year onwards, the school will operate as RV-A and RV-B as there are too many students to manage. Both A & B will have different principal. However, present P will be the overall P and be overseeing both A & B.
One parent asked base on what criteria the students allocate to A or B? The P said is allocated randomly. -
Justsay, is it allocate by level? Sounds like a new concept… So who would the P for A and B?
