yes, i know that their physical locations are diff, but isnt RV pi sch is located in the central of SG??[/quote]People kept saying that DHS is in the east. Actually, it is more centrally located than east. VJC and VS will be really east.
The two schools are not only not affiliated but their physical locations are very far apart such that RVPS is so much nearer to DHS than RV.WeiHan:

Gal went back for CCA and saw from the list quite a few fr River Valley Pri sch,
which is rather a surprise to me as i thot they would likely head for RVHS instead of DHS. ( though they are not affiliated). -

Thought his opening was good. Puts everyone at ease. He took the extra mile to welcome parents and students. He drew reference on the thru train, went at length to give a glimpse of what to expect, set the expectation right. It is impt. Seems like not many schools had principal spoke to the incoming sec 1. The environment is nurturing and warm, good for character building. :rahrah:
can u share what are the interesting facts delivered by the P ??sunshine123:
The talk by Principal was interesting and informative, peppered with interesting facts. Principal come across as a very driven person. That's good. How long has this Principal been around? -

yup, the sch provides a warm and nurturing environment,
with P talking abt filial piety during assembly (though i wonder how much would sink into their minds.....
)
simply like the words written on the sch banner, very pleasant to ears. -

What I feel that by using this method of speaking, the students may follow him.yes, he emphasizes lots on bilingualism.
he is able to translate fr Eng to CL or vice versa at any point of his speech.
perhaps u are not use to it.
fr the few talks i attended, he would use Eng or CL for the whole paragraph,
he din mix the 2 lang in a sentence.
haha.....perhaps he is reading/browsing this forum, thus yr feedback might be useful.
Although he spoke complete sentences in each language, he interchanged the languages while he spoke.
If he wanted to emphasize that he is effectively bilingual then perhaps he should deliver one segment of the talk in english, and when he is done with it, then go to the next segment, speaking in chinese.
I really hope he somehow gets this feedback. -

Thanks for the info. By the way, what is dunman's strengths? For example, heard that NJC is strong in Science, Hwa Chong is strong in humanities. Hwa Chong also flies overseas lecturers in to teach.

So, which area (A level) are they especially strong and good at?
Thanks in advance for sharing.:) -

Hi HappieNewbie,
I do not have all the answer for u. But hope this little bit of info helps:
No need to being any books for orientation week, i.e. 3 to 6 Jan.
Only need to bring writting material and water bottle. Tue need to pay $15 and wed need to bring art material. What to bring and wear is stated on the pink orientation handout. If u do not have it let me know and I can scan and email to u.
Regarding math text books, the staff from popular said teacher does not refer to them. But if u want for your own reading then u may want to buy them.
My DS will only be in sec 1 next year so can't help with the rest of the questions. You can probably find out during your orientation week.
All the best.
