aiyo, why the fixation with RI ?
Because:
1) Many perceive it to be the best school (rightly or wrongly);
2) Because many perceive it to be so, others think must get into RI even though there are many other good schools around otherwise the general populace will think their kid is not in the best school :roll: :
3) Because you can brag to your relatives during Chinese New Year that Ah Boy got into top school you know and some more this year the COP go up some more;
4) Because RI was the only school that accepted appeals for DSA COs, although their efforts were thwarted by MOE in the end. :evil:
When my ds told his supplier that my ds get into RI...she said..' hor...Why didn't you appeal to ACS(I)?'.... my dh was :skeptical: ...
When my father told his old friend that my ds was offered CO from both RI (A school) and HCI (B school) ...His old friend asked him why didn't apply to C school which is the 'best' school to him..So my father end up asking my sis which is the best secondary school now.. :rotflmao: -

There are many good schools in Singapore. As I always say, what's the best school for one boy may not be the best school for another.

haha, if tell another person, maybe will ask why didn't apply to D school? It's a matter of perception, maybe? Any of the top 10 is good if can get in, and there are many good schools in neighbourhood too, i'm sure

I think it is human nature to think that the one with the highest COP must be the best. Believe there was previously this debate in one of the all-girls school thread…
Anyway, what is best for one may not be so for another. -

I am also wondering leh… this thread become like RI thread…
No, its more like ‘anti-RI’ thread… -
Dr.K:
Just curious did you guys put the WL on the option form at all or not..................
My Ds got in through DSA on 2nd choice school while the 1st choice school put him on waiting list.He accepted the 2nd choice school CO as it had equally exciting program as the 1st choice.When the PSLE results were out he could have easily got into the 1st choice based on his results only BUT he stuck to the commitment to stay with the CO. WHY because we debated and decided that's the right thing to do because it was clearly spelt out in the DSA confirmation acceptance.What more some want?How parents like us feel when others are deciding to appeal and make a mockery of the system.All IP schools are good.It is up to the student to excell in their respective chosen school.Appeal should only be placed under exceptional situations not otherwise
In situation like this normally one will put the WL as first choice and the CO as second choice as see how it goes.
It doesn't jeopardize your CO chances at all and there is no moral issue in this. -

Let me correct an untruth here.Dr.K:
MY Ds told me his friend chose ACS(I) through DSA.He got in but now regrets.Only when he went for the registration that he was told that there will be Bible studies half an hour every day. The fact is this kid is not a Christian and he detests it-frantically searching for another school to take him in. In this scenario-it was an honest mistake to accept CO and I think he has every right to appeal to another school on religious grounds.His fundamental rights on freedom of religion had been infringed because the school did not reveal that compulsory bible studies was part of the program. So I do agree in this situation that an appeal to transfer to another school should be granted by all means as provided for in the childs basic constitutional right.I also do understand non-Christians with very low T-scores (206)are accepted in to ACSI and some Christians with higher scores are rejected.Its obvious even to the dumb what the agenda is! So the crap of casting the first stone is just rubbish, rhetoric of the stone age to hide dubious motives.If those who have similar issues as the above Kid has a valid reason and it should be supported but not otherwise. I volunteer my services FOC on grounds of technicality as provided for in the constitution in this scenario. I am certain MOE hates seeing my face and would sort it out before I appear before them.Ha!Ha! :rotflmao:
Bible studies are not part of the curriculum. There is devotion time every morning, where the principal reads some announcements during assembly and quotes a passage from the bible. Hardly bible study if you ask me. A short prayer will be said, hardly lasting a minute. Non-christians can choose not to close their eyes and let their minds wander. :rotflmao: wow
Let's not go too far and talk about infringing on one's constitutional right. There are many non-christians in mission schools so not being comfortable and detesting (too strong a word in my opinion) may not be a valid reason here.
The so called UNTRUTH above is what is termed as subliminal brainwashing techniques that are institutionalized in conversion.(METHODS)I wonder why they are banned by the Church of England?
Lets be fair to the kid that there was a mistake and he can't handle bible quotes which he has to tolerate for 6 years, its best to let him go and he can practice Buddhism /Taoism or whatever he pleases-to infringe on this is a violation..In a similar scenario if your kid is in a similar situation but it is Koran being quoted daily what is your take on this? There should not be double standards.By Constitution there should not be any religion quoted or taught in schools but the govt had been closing an eye and letting things go by because they don't want to rock the boat. I wonder when all of us take the pledge what does that mean? This is a secular country. Be grateful for MOE tolerance and don't demand what should not be there in the first place. You can check it online and read it yourself-you are an educated and a reasonable person I presume-read it with an open mind without any bias. Get Enlightened. :celebrate:Let's have this healthy discussion on if you so wish without any prejudice and taking any side. I am looking at it from purely an academic point of view. -
Dr K., there is no need to be so hard hitting. This forum is characteristic in how we disagree respectfully. Using words such as "elitism" and "selfish" is unnecessary when putting across your point logically.
Accusing another’s religion of "subliminal brainwashing techniques that are institutionalized in conversion" is also unnecessary. Whilst I don’t agree with people who blame MOE for clamping down, I also don’t think they should be lynched/insulted online unnecessarily. Just reasonably argue your point, leave out the unnecessarily incendiary terms and refrain from laughing at others heartfelt perspectives.
I suppose one might give in to the use of such terms once or twice in the heat of one’s passion, but you have done this in multiple posts on the same thread. Further, no one has laughed at you contemptuously (as you have done) even though people may not agree with all you’ve written. Don’t make this forum an unpleasant place to interact in.
A civil society allows for civil disagreement. Thank you…
