I saw one in the Cold Storage catalogue. No idea if it’s any good though.

I saw one at Esso station for less than $100.

          But I haven’t tried it.
          Actually i haven’t tried pencai.
I think it is overpriced and I don’t fancy the things in it.

I saw on Mediacorp show early this year about this HK chef based in Singapore, went home to cook a meal for his mother and siblings. He cooked pen cai. And according to him, there is no authentic pen cai in Singapore, especially so during CNY as corners are cut & some ingredients replaced, so as to make it more economical and faster to cook. He said something about using Oyster Sauce, which is not part of the traditional recipe.

Must use stock. For the past two years, I have been making my own "pen cai", own style, as in not traditional (at least I don’t think it’s original). Ingredients are basically what I fancy putting in, like duck, roast pork, dried scallops, fish maw, dried mushrooms, abalone, fatt choy, white cabbage.

We had pencai at Putien for reunion dinner last year. It was not bad. Not sure if they do take away.

The first time we had it was at roland restaurant (parkway area). Other than it had alot of "expensive" stuff, I don’t recall anything great about it. So when I tried it again at Putien, it was quite nice as in not overwhelming.

Yu cuisine.....isn't that in Marina Bay sands?
                    Wow, you got expensive taste.
Yup I heard good reviews about this place in the Tatler magazine and food forums.

If it is for own consumption, can just order from any Tze Cha store near your place. They tend to be cheap, tasty and filled with good ingredients, vs those from hotels which tend to be expensive & you are paying mainly for the packaging.

Why don’t you cook the pencai? It is easy
