Hi,

Like to check with regards to Nan Hua 2008 SA2 Science Q8

Which one of the following group of animals has the function of the outer coverings matched to it wrongly?

Animal/Outer Body Covering/ Function
1) Bird / colour feathers / camouflage with the surrounding
2) Insect/ hard outer covering/ protects its body
3) fish/scales / propel it in swimming
4) mammal/fur/keep its body warm

The ans given in the ans key is 2. My dd's ans is 3 and I kinda feel that 3 is more correct. Anyone there can shed light on this question? Thanks and really appreciate.
Hi elkniwt

I share the same answer as your daughter. I think there is printing error in the answer key.

MdmKS:

Got this problem from my P3 child worksheet.

A conical flask contain some water and a plant with its roots submerged in the water. A stopper is fixed at the mouth of the flask holding the stem of the plant with its leaves hanging outside the conical flask. Sorry, I am not sure how to upload the image file here.
Question : how to reduce the rate of water being absorbed by the roots? Give 2 methods, without changing the setting of the experiments.

T!A

Hi MdmKS, I think you could reduce the amount of water in the set-up, and chop off the roots. This changes the plant, but not the setting of the experiment. Settings of an experiment mean that the plant should not be moved to a different location...

Hi all, thanks for making this problem \"stay alive\" . Tomorrow is son's Sci exam and till now the teacher still have no chance to go thru the answer with them yet due to the long break follow by exam. The paper has been guided self-marked and done half way.

Hello all

Can I just post one mcq before my girl exam which is tomolo?

Su placed a bag of ice cubes weighting 58g on an electronic scales.what will the reading on the scale be when all the ice cubes in the bag has melted.
1exactly 58g
2slightly less than 58g
3 slightly more than 58g
4 not possible to tell/.

ans given is 3

can someone explain.thanks

Hi Joy

The answer is 3 because water vapour from the surrounding air will condense on the external surface of the bag. This additional water will increase the weight indicated on the weighing scale.

I’m not even sure abt telephone…if they are referring to the ear/mouth piece, think these are piezoelectric stuff.

Hi elkniwt

Thank you for the question. I learn something new today. I googled and found the write-up below. Latest stapler do come with magnet.
A regular stapler includes a base, a staple magazine, and a handle which are hinged for pivotal motion and wherein staples are pushed forward by a spring. Other types of stapler employ a magnet which has a similar function as a spring. Themagnet draws the staples beneath the staple ejector provided on the handle. In this type of stapler, the magnet must be securely attached to the stapler; however, occasionally the magnet occasionally comes off of the stapler, causing the stapler to stopfunctioning stapling operation.
I really do not understand why schools ask such questions which are not common (or maybe I am a mountain tortoise?). If the purpose is to understand a concept, why can't they use common items? If we adults don't even know, how do we expect 9 - 10 year olds to know?
Sorry for ranting but the school questions do get me sometimes.
