Oh, do you mean that the child doesn't need to go through underwriting again if they purchase from young without switching?
That's right
I think that we should be fine so long as we understand well the pros and cons. In fact I'm also considering the Aviva plan for my family. Many specialists for childhood diseases work in govt hospitals anyway. The one thing holding me back is that coverage ceases and the need to underwrite again when the child reaches adulthood, which means the child may not be covered or suffer from exclusions due to pre-existing conditions in his/her new H&S policy. I gotta find out more b4 reaching a decision on switching
Should your child's health condition deteriorates, e,g obesity, high blood pressure, the plan can still be renewed automatically.

Hi,
Yes, you are correct
I am a life planner at Great Eastern Life and my child is covered under GE's private hospital plan. I personally feel that the plan is affordable and we get the best coverage out of it. My son is turning 4 this year and was hospitalized twice before. Good thing that he is covered under the private hospital plan, thus we could admit him to Mount A so that his own PD attended to him. Some of resident doctors in hospitals may not be very experienced with little children. It's always good to hold a higher plan when we can afford so we can have options when there's a need to seek medical treatment in future, than to be left with no choice when we're ill.
Once the child holds a shield plan on his/her own now, he/she will be covered for lifetime guaranteed no matter what conditions arise in future. And because medical expenses these days are not cheap, I urge everyone to make sure your family is well-covered in all areas.

Do u need to pay anything for the hospital stay? I have a shield plan with NTUC Incomeshield and a premier care plan with AXA. That premier care plan got no deductible and co-insurance. Wonder if it is sufficient that I just get a good shield plan.Hi,

Hi, I do not need to pay anything for the hospital stay. Everything is claimable. It's usually good enough if you have a good shield plan that you finance using both Medisave and Cash. The Medisave portion will cover everything except for deductible and co-insurance. The Cash portion will provide for these two areas.
Almost all insurance companies have more or less comparable shield plans as all approved by CPF. What matters to me most is the claiming history of the company. GE reimbursed my claims so far promptly and without having to re-access the criteria to claim.

Perhaps you might like to check... That the limits are not Lifetime limits but Annual Policy Limits.

Huge difference it makes when it comes to how much can be claimed. The former has a lower total amount. The latter has a larger amount of limit as each renewal resets the limits to maximum.
IMHO, the shield plans are very competitive, and it is the fine details that differ, which a good FC can tell you the difference. Then one has just to choose what you are most concerned about.
Perhaps one should also choose wisely from the start... Here is some experience to share...
If you bought a shield plan from company X, and over the years it is renewed. Newer updated shield plans become better and limits are higher to keep up with the times. When you want to upgrade, and if you have developed any condition... Switching companies is a no-no as you get Exclusions.
However, upgrading with the same company will allow an exclusion of that particular condition (and its related conditions) in the upgraded plan... BUT the difference is that the conditions is not excluded and falls under the limits of the older shield plan.
Hope at is clear enough... Basically, choose wisely from the start. -
