      Hi there

      can show the model drawing for this question again.

      Ray and Jim had an equal amount of money. Ray spent $85 on the watch and Jim spent $189 on a camera. As a result, Ray had thrice as much as money as Jim had left. How much money did each of them have at first?

      thanks in advance

            From the model,

            2 units + watch = camera
            2 units + $85 = $189
            Therefore, 2 units = $189 - $85.

              Wow thank you… Think my gal will have hard time understand the concept.

              Infact I was using my method to teach her,

              Rey: A-85=3x
              X=(A-85)/3
              Jim : A-189=x
              A-189=(A-85)/3
              (A-189)*3=A-85
              3A-567=A-85
              3A-A=567-85
              2A=482
              A=241

              No wonder her mouth open so big

                  sorry to bother but I need to know how to draw the box model for Nancy.

                  Helen had twice as much money as Simon.
                  Nancy had $120 less than Helen.
                  The 3 persons had $380 altogether.
                  How much did Simon have?

                  I know how to draw the box model for both Helen and Simon but stump at Nancy's box. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.

This is what i teaches my boy too.. to look at the model to make sure that the model is correct after the final ans. But boys..... i am sure he will not check. 😓

                        5 four should be 5 groups of 4, as taught in my boy's textbook.

                        Therefore, the ans should be Ans 3.
