The doctor that we have seen in Mt E. for my DS is Dr Dr Belinda Murugasu-Koh. She is recommended by my Gnae. Not sure whether she is good in children having liver conditions, as we usually go to her for common cold and coughs etc.

      Weihan,

I am so glad to read that your niece is awake and feeling better. My prayers are with her 🙏

Dr Belinda is VERY VERY good. Even if she cannot handle your case, she will recommend one who is able to.

She is a highly respected PD and she is very good with kids.

My 2 sons go to her.

However, for hospitalization, I would highly recommend Mt A, as opposed to Mt E. The nurses in the former are very caring and motherly.

          Mdm Koh:

Good to hear that she's awake. Well, I guess it should be ok if the senior consultant is seeing her regularly. She's lucky to have a concerned uncle like you. 😄

I rushed to the hospital 10 pm just now after coming home to hear that she is in ICU.

I see her almost everyday except weekend since both my sis and brother in law are working and my mum is looking after her. All three of them cried in the hospital just now after learning about her critical condition. My even said that she won't want to live anymore if anything happen to my niece.

She has been an easily irritable kid since birth. We don't know why. She can cry for an whole hour and wake up in the middle of the night crying. We just don't know why.

Throwing tantrum aside, she is rather active and cute in a sense that she learn to talk quite early. She has a pair of eye that talks too and that is why I particularly adore her.

          Hi WeiHan,

My heart goes out to your family. My sons have been hospitalized for acute conditions before and it is so distressing. You want to take the pain for the child but can't. And it's worse when you don't know what's wrong. It's good that she's awake and cheerful now.

My son was hospitalized at KK once. I think the nurses are great, but I thought some of the doctors could have better bedside manners. But my son received good treatment, so I can't complain about their competence,

I don't know any PDs who are liver experts, but my PD (YY Yip @ Gleneagles) is an excellent doctor and he can refer you to other pediatric specialists. PM me if you would like details. I see you have already had several recommendations. Maybe too many!?

          Blessings to your niece.

Hope your niece will recover soon and that her liver is not damaged :xedfingers:

I too had gone through the ordeal of having my children hospitalized when they were less than 2 months old. It is heart-breaking and like what MummyThreeStreams said, you wish to take their place but can't.

Your sister is lucky to have you searching for suitable PDs. All the best.

                :hi5: on Dr Belinda.

I am so thankful to her for \"saving\" my son 5 years ago from having to undergo an invasive test, and more recently, for going an extra mile on the youngest (and me!) so that we could be discharged from the hospital earlier.

Agree that you should look for a PD who specializes in liver conditions and amongst the PDs, they would usually know who to recommend.

My three years old niece is now in ICU (Intensive care unit) and is currently in semi-coma state.

She contracted foot mouth disease 2 weeks ago but recovered quite quickly. After that, she started feeling sleepy and kept sleeping. She vomitted after eating. She was brought to KK hospital specialist 1 week ago and they feel that she just had bloated stomach.

Until the day before, she rarely waked up again. My sister quickly brought her to the hospital. Without making sufficient examnination, they concluded that she has Meningitis.

My sis discovered that the child is getting jaundice and the eye is starting to turn yellowish. After alerting the doctor to do a check relating to this symptom (what irony, non doctor have to teach doctor what to do?), they now concluded that her liver is significantly damaged and ammonia level in the blood is extremely high (an indication of damage liver). Shouldn't they have checked the ammonia level in the blood in the first day of admission?

Does anyone here have any such experience with child? What is the best that we can do?

I just want to share my experience with everyone. My DS1 is now 8 years old, he had his first febrile seizure when he was 9months old. We sent him to KKH. They do their checks and told us he needed to be admitted. But the admission process was so slow and no medication was given. By the time he was at his ward, he had a 2nd seizure. Then after 3 days, his fever still didn't subside and we asked the doc what can we do? He said will continue to monitor, so we asked if you are just monitoring his fever we can do that at home too. My aunt then recommended a very good paediatrician from Mt E and you decided to discharge my son cos he was not doing any good in the hospital and we believe we can care better for him. So we told the snr consultant. He wanted us to sign an agreement that we insisted the discharge and the hospital shall not hold any responsibility. We have no issue signing it. But he made a comment that signing this is like a cancer patient wanting to go home without treatment. We were very upset he made that comment. Anyway, we didn't have time and heart to argue with such people. Fortunately, we went to the right doc. He immediately did some tests and confirmed he had bronchitis. The correct medicine was given and he recovered well. I cannot imagine what happen if we continue to stay in the hospital not doing anything except monitoring. As parents, we need to be alert with our kids condition and feedback or take action where necessary. Please never leave it to the hospital and believe they will be in good hands. Hospital is big and doctors are merely following procedures and symptoms obvious to them. We cannot totally trust them. I went to KKH for the delivery of my 3 kids because I knew a very good gynae there. But for kids, we never send any of them to KKH after that incident. This could be individual case and it could happen in any hospital. Hence, best thing for parents is to stay alert when kids are sick.

We also had a less than satisfactory experience at KKH couple of years back. DD complained of a severe stomach pain for several days. We just got back from Spain a week earlier. After going to the A&E at KKH 2 times in a row, she was admitted into the hospital. Throughout her stay there, she was just being monitored and given constipation medication. The doc at the hospital thought that she was just having constipation although my DD was subsequently vomiting and not constipated at all. Still no other medication and I resorted to getting something from my TCM sinsei :stupid:

Till now, I do not know if it was an infection by some bacteria, indigestion due to over-eating in Spain, or what... But KKH insisted that it was constipation when their constipation medication didn't help at all and DD continued to have her stomach pain (although less severe) for the next few weeks or maybe longer.

                      Weihan,

Glad to hear your niece is recovering. Hope she has a speedy recovery. Hope your mum and sister will take good care of themselves too - very stressful to see a loved one hospitalized and rushing to and fro. You take care too and good that you are helping out in some ways!
