I seriously doubt dat she is taken advantage of when she willingly n openly advertise her services in public,
n she was reportedly in direct contact with some men on some transactions.

Rehabitation, second chance n given space to rebuild her life – I will second dat anytime.

I find it hard to swallow dat there is no accountability for her role – where is d justice in d law?
Wat is d msg being conveyed to all those underage ‘aspirants’ dat I saw in today’s New Paper headline wanting to be social escorts? ‘It’s OK if other ppl’s lives r messed up but we will make our money n get away scot-free?'

Agree.. we are not talking about a young 12 yr old being raped. That of course will earn loads of sympathy. We're talking about a very enterprising young woman here who knows the shortest way to easy money and that Prada dag. Some of her encounters she had with the men were not even through the pimp. It's private transactions. So what do you think she's made off? Innocent gullible material? I seriously doubt so.

However, I do feel that we should give her a second chance with rehabilitation if she sees the need to change. But on no account should she get away without any responsibilty on her part. She's 17 , not 12. We would expect a certain level of maturity at least knowing what is right and wrong.

Even a pri school kid if caught flouting rules in school will be disciplined before being given a 2nd chance.

This whole saga just makes me think I should spend more time communicating moral values to my child whether it's a DS or DD.

        Agree. Agree. Agree.
I am gonna be spending some time with my DS & DD on this tonight......[/quote]How to talk to P6 ds about this type of thing? It is an appropriate age to discuss these type of commercial transactions yet? For those kids in Pei Chun, did the school talk to them about this whole saga since their ex-principal is featured on the newspaper headlines? If so, how did they do it?

30 years ago, France was like Singapore today. I lived there then for a bit. A friend of mine was 14. Was having sex with her 21 year old boyfriend. I was 15... very undeveloped (had an airport runway on my chest - thank God) ... I had to sit through their dates eating my croissant, drinking my chocolate, whilst the 2 french-kissed for long minutes. I took to timing them - 2.5 minutes was their longest.

When I had my kids, I started sex education at 2.5 years because I read about perverts in France as often as we read about them in today's papers in Singapore. I taught them the parts of the body and I showed them where they should not allow ANYONE to touch them. I taught them vocabulary and phrases to say \"You pervert!!\" and \"Stop that!!\", and then I practised role play with them so they had fun shouting \"You pervert!!\" The training worked so well that once when DH was playing with DD and accidentally pulled at her shorts, she turned around and whacked him on the head and said \"You pervert!!\". DH got a shock.

And I watched them carefully. Cannot go public toilet alone. Travel must use child leash/harness.

When they were in mid Primary, we watched movies together and I explain all the sex jokes blah blah blah... and where I can, I send in my own messages of what is right and wrong. I answer all their questions. One memorable question from DD was asked when she was 9 - Why do people have to marry to have babies? What's wrong with having babies before you get married?

Last year, I made Little Boy do up a Powerpoint presentation on sexually transmitted diseases - symptoms and pathogens. I told him I wanted many pictures so that he would get a sense of the monstrosities that can enter our bodies through sex. Check this out - http://akorra.com/2011/11/01/top-10-dangerous-sexually-transmitted-diseases-stds/

In lower secondary, I showed DD an article about a JC student who contracted AIDS from her JC boyfriend, who was himself a good student and who looked very decent... and they were in a stable relationship. We toured an AIDS exhibition held in the foyer of a local university and she learnt that ANYONE can get AIDS.

The wave of sexuality creeps into our children's lives. I tackle it head on. I talk about sex openly with them. I tease them about sex and BGR. I keep the comms lines open. When DD started dating her boyfriend, I said it plainly to their faces \"I don't think you 2 should be having sex.\" I can't enforce it but I say it anyway. DD was NEVER allowed sleepovers... not even school camps. Same for DS.

After 18, I don't care. I can't protect them forever but up till 18, I can educate them.

                D men don't deserve it? It's dat a typo?

But it is a very heavy price to pay for some thrills with an underaged pros.

I think dis high profile case has sent d msg to d men out there,
n made more aware of dis 'little known' law.
However, it is not complete without sending d right msg to SYTs aspring to enter d trade.
The law itself may likely impose an affordable punishment , its the media, and the music that they face with the society, friends and family that is going to shatter them.

There’s no such thing as affordable punishment. The law is there to punish convicted offenders.

Poor or not, is beside the point. Girls who develop bodies early WILL run a higher risk of early sexual initiation. I saw it happen with my friend in JC at a beach, getting flattering attention from 2 Caucasians. It was a good thing the Teacher in charge was 1.8m tall and ex-rugby player. Thankfully, I developed late... and only had such attention after I got married... by which time I was well equipped to understand the moral issues deeply and handle it.

Edited: Ummm... thinking back... I did get indecently propositioned in uni... but uni is not 15, 16 or 17.
I agree, this was my experience when i was 15 yo, even one of my classmate noticed that one of my teacher had 'certain' attention towards me. Some males saw me as an objects, only when i top the class in math they saw me with a bit of respect. Growing up into young adult i ecountered some dilemas because of this, i did not end up like this girl but still i wish my mom was there to help me understand this situation n equip me with guidance on how to deal with it. I hv 4 siblings n my mom hv no clue abt how i grew up, but i understand where she come from. Now I see my p6 dd started to develop even earlier, but Im not going to let her face it alone, I also pray hard for God protection upon her as Its not possible for me to be with her 24/7. I want her to be in all girls sec school but there is none near our place, so Im targeting nearest mission school for her next yr.

any experienced practioner lawyers here from legal profession, handled similar cases before ?

may we hear some of your views ?

                        a) what is the chance(s) like, for those who plead Not guilty ?

                        b) if the girl had been over 18 at that time, does it mean the verdict could be different ?
ie. those 48 men need not resign, nor lose their career bec they need not go jail ?
