You guys are getting me worried.

I am still happily cruising along. Time to come back down to earth issit?

Frankly speaking, unable to have a good feel of how DD is doing. Her results of all her mini tests reads like a roller coaster, for all subjects. One moment full marks next moment, average or even below class average in some papers.

Maybe should get her to do some past year school CA1 papers to just to have a feel of where she is hor. Ok :xedfingers: that she is doing alright.

Since they didn't get 'full exams' in P1 and P2, it's good to let them try a full paper before the actual exam.


1. Give them an idea of how many questions there will be in the exam.
2. Time them to pace them as there's a time limit for exams.
3. Allows them to review on what they need to take note.

The purpose is to let them familiarise themselves.
I noticed for my students who are used to doing exam papers since P1, they are able to focus for longer periods of time. Most of them are able to manage their time well during the paper.

Don't stress them, but just allow them to get used to it.

Do ensure for oral exams:
1. Basic manners (walk in properly, don't drag the chair, greet, ask for permission to be seated)
2. Speak clearly and fluidly, no awkward pauses and don't speak too fast either

I’m very upset over my DS last night.


Few weeks ago, DS tutor told me that when she gave him the problem solving question, he has forgotten how to to. Those are the term 1 & 2 works.

Then on last sat. The school gave them homework on the past year SA paper to practicse before the coming SA1. And my DS still couldn’t do. The question was similar to those that the tutor has given him weeks ago. I explain to him and even make him redo those questions and he ensure he understand. From the way, he handles it, i know he understand.

However, last night, i asked to practics some math question. Those question are the similar question that he has done on the past year paper. And he makes the same mistake again.

I’m very upset over it. This Friday is the SA1 and how come he can forgot what i have taught him that few days ago…

His P1 &2, so far he is doing fine. 80plus plus range. However, as P1 and 2 doesnt have hotlisic program and no proper exam format (except P2 - SA2).

I’m not sure is he under stress or because he didn’t read and focus. or is he having confusion on math problem sum.

Anyone have similar experience as mine? Can share your opinons.

You are not alone. This thread was started by me and as you corrected guessed, mine is P4 now. I have exactly the same problem with you, almost tearing my lungs out when i was coaching her for the past few weeks. However, after much shouting and no improvements, i have now changed to a much calmer tone and \"try\" to make the lessons more interesting.


I know the above is not easy, plus i am a working mum, time is really not on my side.. but time and again, this seems to work better as she is completely switched off once i yell.

My conclusion is they may be partially stressed and partially also care-less la ~ yet to know the importance of exams..

Same here. DD claims that the teacher did not teach them on every sum that she got wrong. I told her how is that possible. Pulled out her school work and showed her exactly the same type of sums that she had done in school and the practise papers that the teacher made them do.


When I went through the sums with her, she seems to understand. When given a new set of papers to do, she makes similar mistakes in similar sums or will stumble over problems requiring same application of concept but phrased slightly differently. So instead of making her do new sets of papers, I went through those that she has done, and made her redo the same set of papers a few days later and ask her to compare her results each time.

With her, I realised she was making excuses, teacher did not teach, sum is phrased differently so I did not understand, etc, etc. End of the day, I told her she is not putting in the necessary effort to remember and focus on what we have gone through. And it was proven by her making the same mistakes on the exact same sum in the exact same paper. Showing her that, I removed her excuses and she realised she can only blame herself. Her attitude improved somewhat. We shall see how long it lasts. Right now, I am only asking for it to last till end of her exams.

The other thing that I have to keep pointing out to her is they way she answers her Science questions. She does not answer specific to the question. Her answers, on the general knowledge and common sense level, are not wrong but they are not specific to what is shown in the diagrams or the questions. Had to keep telling her to keep her answers specific.

Then come English. Had to tell her, in Math and even Science to a certain extent if the teacher can understand your sentence, grammatical error will not be penalised but in English no room for any spelling, punctuation or grammatical error. All sentences must be complete.

For my DD, it boils down to attitude. She has the capabilities. Grasping things really fast but she is also very easily distracted. Her topical tests results reads like a roller coaster. From high scores to below average. Inconsistent is her middle name this year.

Sometimes really dunno what to do with her.
